THE expansion of a convenience store in\u00a0Llanishen\u00a0has left an empty unit next door, and the owner wants the community\u2019s help to fill it.\u00a0<\/span>
\nOwner of Fishguard Road Convenience Store,\u00a0Manjinder\u00a0Singh, reopened the store after moving into the unit next door, which has been left empty for several years.\u00a0<\/span>
\nHe is now looking to the people of\u00a0Llanishen\u00a0for suggestions as to what they would like to see in the old unit as he hopes to deliver something that will benefit the community.\u00a0<\/span>
\nMr\u00a0Singh, who moved to Cardiff from India in 2002, has been running the convenience store for four\u00a0years and\u00a0acquired the additional unit last March.\u00a0<\/span>
\nHe decided to move into the attached unit as it is a lot larger than the other, allowing him to provide a wider range for customers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nAccording to a\u00a0report by the BBC<\/a>, convenience stores like\u00a0Mr\u00a0Singh’s are expected to survive, despite 2018 being the worst year for profit in over a decade.\u00a0<\/span>
\nThis is because they do not have to compete with online retailers, and some even help them by serving as pick-up and drop-off points for deliveries.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nNimesh Shah, an employee of\u00a0Mr\u00a0Singh\u2019s, says convenience stores like this one serve the community.\u00a0<\/span>
\nMr\u00a0Shah said: \u201cLast year, when we had really bad snow, we came in and we made sure that there was enough stock in the shop, we went out into the community and delivered bread and\u00a0milk to those who needed it \u2013 you do not get that in a super market.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>
\nHe added that\u00a0Mr\u00a0Singh\u2019s ethics is what keeps the shop going.\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u201cHe opens up every Christmas Day, and when I ask him why, he said \u2018if only one family have forgotten their gas or electric, then it is worth staying open, just for them’,\u201d said\u00a0Mr\u00a0Shah.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
