no formal training is required to use the equipment as it is designed to be used by anyone and can save lives.<br \/>\nUnlike limited access defibrillators, which are usually in offices or shops, public defibrillators tend to be outside and can be accessed by any member of the public at any time of day.<br \/>\nAccording to the charity Welsh Hearts, the survival rate can increase by 50% when a defibrillator is used which is why their goal is to ensure people in Wales are never more than 100m away from a defibrillator.<br \/>\nWelsh Hearts charity director, Sharron Owen said: \u201cThere are still not enough defibrillators, we\u2019d like to see more out there in the community,<br \/>\n\u201cWe have probably placed around 1,600 defibrillators in Wales in the last five years, about 60% of those are in Cardiff.\u201d<br \/>\nThe charity is asking people in Wales to \u2018go red\u2019 to help fundraise for Heart Awareness month this February.<br \/>\nThe Welsh Hearts campaign \u2018The Big Red Heart Appeal\u2019 is on February 15<sup>th<\/sup> but the charity is encouraging people to fundraise throughout the month.<br \/>\nFundraising suggestions include sitting in a bath of red custard, holding a red bake sale or simply wearing red to work or school.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_31063\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31063\" style=\"width: 341px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-31063\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2019\/01\/big-red-hearts-PS-small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"341\" height=\"256\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31063\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-31063\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2019\/01\/big-red-hearts-PS-small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"341\" height=\"256\" \/><\/noscript> The Big Red Heart Appeal<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re asking people all over Wales to go red for us.
