CAMPAIGN group Friends of Roath are \u201cdelighted\u201d after winning a temporary reprieve for 38 trees that were due to be felled.
\nA decision to reassess the final phase of the Roath Brook Flood Scheme as a stand-alone project, with a new business case, was approved by Natural Resources Wales\u2019 Board.
\nThe final phase of the scheme, which has been on hold since December 2017 for campaigners to be heard, would include the widening of the brook at Roath Brook Gardens and Roath Mill Gardens, and the building of flood-preventative walls in the parks.
\nThe first two phases of the Scheme are complete, with NRW, the organisation responsible for the scheme, saying that \u201cmore than 300 homes are now at reduced risk of flooding\u201d.
\nThe work to widen Roath Brook at Roath Brook Gardens and Roath Mill Gardens involved removing 38 trees and replanting 41 new ones.
\nBut resident Sarah Jones, 42, raised concerns over the quality of the replacement trees.
\n\u201cThe trees before were spectacular. What have replaced them are twigs, which experts have told us \u2018should not have come off the van\u2019.\u201d
\nThe campaign group disputes whether NRW\u2019s planned work is the best approach in an area that has historically never flooded.
