pound&#8217;s courtyard extends to Bishop&#8217;s Castle&#8217;s 13th century walls<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nDue to the heritage of the site, Llandaff 50+ will carry out an archaeological dig and a bat survey before it submits a planning application to Cardiff Council later this year.<span \/>\n\u201cI do not anticipate a very large or prolonged excavation, but since the builders will need details of the present nature of the ground below the paving, it makes sense to undertake that investigation with a view to trying to learn about the archaeology at the same time,\u201d said Dr Young.<span site is potentially of significance for two reasons.\u00a0Firstly, it immediately adjoins the curtain wall of the Bishops&#8217; Castle. The castle was built in the late 13th century as a residence for the Bishops of Llandaff and is a Scheduled Monument.\u00a0<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n\u201cThe second interest in the site is that for a long time this area was the Llandaff pound.\u201d<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nLlandaff 50+ will also be holding a bat survey later protected species and must not be disturbed by any building work.<span site is the presence of a Western Power Distribution substation.<br \/>\nThe substation is currently next to the walls of Bishop&#8217;s Castle and blocking any attempt at maintenance.<br \/>\n<figure
