Sit down,\u201d she abruptly told councillor for Ely, Russell Goodway, as he accused the motion of being an \u201cattack on workers&#8217; rights\u201d.<br \/>\nCoun Goodway, cabinet member for investment and development, told the Lord Mayor: \u201cYou are in real danger of taking the chair into disrepute.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u201cAnd you are in real danger of a challenge to the chair and that has never happened in the history of this city,\u201d said the Lord Mayor.<br \/>\nMonitoring officer Davina Fiore defended the chair and apologised if she had acted in an \u201cuncourtly way\u201d but that she \u201cdidn\u2019t think that was the case\u201d.<br \/>\nThe motive behind the motion was questioned by Labour and other parties.<br \/>\nCouncil Leader Huw Thomas said Cardiff Bus had added two independent directors with a \u201cwealth of experience\u201d to fill positions previously held by the council representatives.<br \/>\nThe Lord Mayor said: \u201cThe general public will be making some remarks about the behaviour displayed in the council this evening &#8212; and you will all be judged by that. I think we need to do it.<br \/>\nWhen asked if the move would save all the routes proposed to be scrapped Coun Williams said: \u201cThat\u2019s not for me to say.\u201d<br \/>\nPeter Bradbury, councillor for Caerau, criticised the motion and said the council needed to give the board more time to make it work.<br \/>\nHowever, the motion received support from\u00a0Fenella Bowden, Independent councillor for Heath, who urged the council to &#8220;take politics out of the decision&#8221;.<br \/>\n\u201cEverybody should be supporting this motion,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nCouncillors who are not qualified should not be exposed to sitting on the board, highlighting the need for professional skills and experience, she added.<br \/>\n&#8220;It\u2019s about all bus routes, it\u2019s about saving Cardiff bus.\u201d<br \/>\nThe motion was not passed \u2013 48 voting against while 16 voted for and two abstained.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>COUNCILLORS clashed last night as they discussed a proposal to reduce their influence on the board of Cardiff Bus.
