He has raised \u00a32,850 so far.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mr<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Griffiths\u2019 journey started in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Holyhead<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and took him through Anglesey and over the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Menai<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Bridge to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Caernarfon<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, through\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Snowdonia<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dolgellau<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Machynlleth and Barmouth.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">He walked from Llanidloes, over the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Brecon<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Beacons, through\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Merthyr<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Tydfil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and ended in Cardiff Bay on Saturday, just in time to see Wales beat England in the Six Nations rugby game.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mr Griffiths, 41, told\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Cardiffian<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">:\u00a0\u201cI have a sister-in-law who has incurable lung cancer, and when first diagnosed she was given a relatively short life expectancy, and although that has\u00a0increased\u00a0significantly, she still suffers.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI wanted to do something that would be a morale booster for her and show people cared but also something that could raise the profile of lung cancer because it doesn\u2019t have the profile of breast cancer or prostate cancer.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">In what\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mr<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Griffiths has dubbed\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/greatwelshstiltchallenge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Great Welsh Stilt Challenge<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he experienced many highs and lows.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe low point would have been the first day. I was walking across Anglesey\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2014<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a 33-mile journey<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2014<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and I walked 22 miles. I had ridiculous blisters on my\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">legs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and I could barely walk for a few days afterwards,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mr<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Griffiths said.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe highest point would be, I think, knowing that I was going to do it, so when I reached the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Brecon<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Beacons and had got through the worst terrain over\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Snowdonia<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and North\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Powys<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Once I got to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Brecon<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0I knew that I was on my way home then,\u201d he added.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mr<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Griffiths was not short of support along his journey.\u00a0\u201cPeople came out of their doors and gave me money and were beeping their car horns.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI learnt a lot about human nature. Some people just put their heads down and pretended not to notice, and others would have a chat and ask what I was doing.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Walking through harsh terrain on stilts was no simple feat for\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mr<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Griffiths.\u00a0\u201cI had some massive wipe-outs. I was walking near\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Rhayader<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and a step gave way and I went flying. I went through quite a few pairs of stilts.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cIn terms of walking it was tough because they [the stilts] are like horses\u2019 hooves. They weigh about seven kilos each, and I was walking about 40,000 steps on stilts a day. I wanted to do something a bit different that no-one has ever done.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI do not think we do enough in education about giving people aspirations and saying to children \u2018you can chase anything you put your mind to\u2019. It is good for the children to see if they have something they want to achieve.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">He hopes his achievement will help raise the profile of lung cancer, which makes up one in four cancer deaths.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe key thing for me is that this is one of the biggest killers in the UK and it gets very little attention.
