Which means that they will have to drain the reserves to the point where no cushion is in place for future emergencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><strong>&#8216;They&#8217;re are reducing services and increasing Council Tax for residents who are struggling&#8217;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In order to meet their spending commitments and statutory spending requirements, Vale Council had also planned to increase Council Tax share by the maximum 4.99 per cent.<br \/>\nThis would mean a real-terms annual increase of \u00a358.14 for Band D properties, bringing the total payable to \u00a31245.06.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ufi\/reaction\/profile\/browser\/?ft_ent_identifier=ZmVlZGJhY2s6NDA5MTIwNTc5NjU0OTM3XzQwOTE0NTIyMjk4NTgwNg%3D%3D&amp;av=1360574337\"><br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\nBarry resident, Julia Brunskill said: \u201cThere have been new builds flying up over the last few years and many more new builds to come.<br \/>\n\u201cThey gain new Council Tax payments from all of those, are reducing services and wish to increase the Council Tax from residents who are struggling &#8211; and in an area where universal credit has been rolled out.\u201d<br \/>\nCoun Ian Johnson said at the meeting: \u201cI blame Westminster and Cardiff Bay.<br \/>\n\u201cThey need to look at what services they want us to provide and give us the funding.\u201d<br \/>\nThe Council will now hold an extraordinary meeting by Friday, March 8, as they have until March 11 to set the new rate of Council Tax they need to pass a budget.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VALE of Glamorgan Council\u2019s budget for next year has been roundly rejected in an &#8220;unprecedented&#8221; scenario.
