Data produced by Welsh charity\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Chwarae<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Teg<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">shows that in Wales<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, women still\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">favour<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0careers in education and social work.\u00a0<\/span><span positions and just 2.7 percent of skilled trade occupations are held by women in Wales.\u00a0<\/span><span subvert gender stereotyping.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span Wales and Borders, Alison Thompson, told\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">me<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the company had a target to increase its\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">intake<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0of female employees by 20 percent by 2020.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cIn Network Rail we\u2019re looking to support and recruit more women into our industry because at the moment we are really under-represented<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0she said.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Research by Network Rail f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ound\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that girls as young as seven believe that a career in the engineering sector is not an option\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0them.\u00a0<\/span><span and I\u2019ve had some really exciting roles and opportunities and I just want to encourage more people to get involved in that<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u201d said\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mrs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Thompson.<\/span><span some of the areas where women are under-represented and it\u2019s important to encourage women into those areas so that we can have a more diverse workforce,\u201d she added.\u00a0<\/span><span Transport for Wales\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">TfW<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">)\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">since it took over from Arriva last October.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Alexia Course joined the rail industry as a graduate and recently started a new role as rail operations director at\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">TfW<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">She spoke positively about her experience working as a woman in a male-dominated industry.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cFrom my experience everyone took you as you were, really, and you progressed on your merit &#8212; and that\u2019s been really good for me<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.
