A WAVE of yellow will take to the streets of Cardiff next week to raise awareness about endometriosis and support those women who suffer from it.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe Welsh leg of the world-wide\u00a0<\/span>EndoMarch<\/span>\u00a0will take place on Saturday, <\/span>March 30.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u201cWe want to get the facts out there and what endo really is,\u201d said Nikki Dally, one of the event\u2019s organisers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nEndometriosis is a condition where tissue\u00a0<\/span>similar to<\/span>\u00a0the uterus lining of the womb grows in other parts of the body, causing excessive bleeding and severe pain.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nMs Dally, from Llantrisant, has been involved with the organising of the march in Wales for the past four years.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u201cWe still have so many people who know nothing about endometriosis or they know about endo but not the correct definition and treatment of endometriosis. We still have a lot of work to be done,\u201d said Ms Dally.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nMs Dally said there are a lot of misunderstandings around endometriosis. She said people still believe that pregnancy helps the symptoms of endometriosis.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u201cMine got worse on my second little miracle, who was conceived whilst on\u00a0<\/span>Zoladex<\/span>\u00a0[hormonal] treatment for my endo.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nZoladex<\/span>\u00a0induces your body into an early \u2013 but reversible \u2013 menopause.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nMs Dally started “spotting” at the age of 10, and when she started her period at the age of 12, she experienced severe pain and heavy clots.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nShe was hospitalised at age 14, where it was discovered her one of her ovaries was behind her uterus.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u201cI was sent to a psychiatrist who deemed my pain all in my head.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u201cIt was not until I was 24 and unable to conceive that a GP sent to me a gynaecologist who performed a laparoscopy and diagnosed endometriosis,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>said Ms Dally.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nThis year will see the first march take place in Llandudno, in a bid to raise awareness in North Wales as well as South.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nMs Dally said she decided to get in contact with the\u00a0<\/span>EndoMarch<\/span>\u00a0headquarters in America to request if she could organise the Welsh march after being saddened watching the London march online that she could not attend.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nAfter getting the go ahead from Endometriosis UK, Ms Dally started to organise a team for the event and gained sponsorship from FTWW \u2013 Fair Treatment for the Women of Wales.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u201cWhen we are not planning the\u00a0<\/span>EndoMarch<\/span>\u00a0most of us work with FTWW with their lobbying with the Welsh government<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u201cWe would like to get into school eventually into the period talk class and get endo known. We know many adults with endo who wish they had known in school that painful periods are NOT normal,\u201d said 37-year-old Ms Dally.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
