(Image: Gareth Stamp)<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Volunteers pay a \u00a33 annual membership fee which pays for work done throughout the year, such as\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">planting flowers, painting benches, edging paths and litter picking<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.friendsofhaileypark.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Friends of Hailey Park<\/a> was established 12 years ago to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">preserve<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Llandaff North\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">park, and now has around 150 members.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mrs Bowers<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, 60,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0said: \u201cOf course we will carry on. This is no reason to stop. We could try and plant them in a different\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">area<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0but we will not stop.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Primroses are a protected species and under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t is illegal to remove them<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0from their habitat.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Though these primroses were not growing wild, the group is saddened they have disappeared as they were planted as part of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">wider <a href=\"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2019\/03\/15\/five-ways-to-help-stop-the-decline-of-insects-in-cardiff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">conservation<\/a> efforts.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI am really passionate about the conservation side of the park. They see stuff on\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Blue Planet<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0but don\u2019t realise what\u2019s on their doorstep,\u201d said Mrs Bowers.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cIt\u2019s great wanting to save the planet but it starts in gardens and parks.
