I suppose it\u2019s mainly food and travelling \u2013 I have so many pictures of food,\u201d she jokes.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s quite funny. I\u2019ll be walking along with my cane and stop to take a photograph and you do see people thinking \u2018how is she taking that photo if she\u2019s visually impaired?\u2019<br \/>\n\u201cI might not have full sight, but I just love taking pictures. I really want that to be reflected in the pictures.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s easy to get someone to smile and pose for the camera but that\u2019s not real, I want to document the struggle and wards they face every day.\u201d<br \/>\nThe 25-year-old from Cardiff is working on the project while she takes the third year of her medical degree.<br \/>\n\u201cAs passionate as I am about it, I need to be realistic. This isn\u2019t going to be an instant thing and I do need to put my work first.<br \/>\n\u201cBut I suppose I\u2019d say I\u2019m not your average student, I don\u2019t go out clubbing every weekend. I\u2019d rather spend my time doing projects like this.\u201d<br \/>\nAlongside being partially deaf and blind, Alexandra suffers from a conditional called Mitochondrial Myopathy, a form of muscle weakness.<br \/>\nThe condition has seen her admitted to hospital 14 times in the past two years.<br \/>\nBefore developing the condition, Alexandra was part of the Great Britain swimming team and received sponsorship to the 2012 Paralympic Games.<br \/>\nUnfortunately, her frequent hospital admissions left her struggling with the training.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s been a massive adjustment period for me. I\u2019ve had to accept that I wouldn\u2019t be able to carry on with that part of my life, it\u2019s really frustrating.<br \/>\n\u201cI don\u2019t know what my body will be doing in 10 years, but for now I\u2019m having to adapt.\u201d<br \/>\nIt is the time spent in hospital that really inspired Alexandra to become an NHS worker.<br \/>\n\u201cI think my experiences have shown me what makes a good doctor and what makes a bad doctor.<br \/>\n\u201cThere\u2019s this outdated mentality that if you work for the NHS you can\u2019t be disabled. There is no set image for an NHS doctor.<br \/>\n\u201cNo disability, background, ethnicity etc should stop you from being an NHS doctor. It\u2019s massively boosted the project for me.\u201d<br \/>\nWhile recognising that the project is in its infancy, Alexandra has big plans.<br \/>\n\u201cEventually, I want to put all of the images in a book of sorts to try and document it.
