We\u2019re very worried that the Welsh government just simply aren\u2019t doing enough on this agenda.\u201d&nbsp;Ms Cable told an audience at Chapter Arts Centre on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe issues that are unpicked in this film, such as the gig economy, zero hours contracts and the social care sector are all contributing factors to why people are in poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Films like this are important in shining a light on the real horrific struggles that families face day to day,\u201d said Ms Cable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The film, from the writer and director of <em>I, Daniel Blake<\/em>, follows a family in Newcastle  \u2013 the North East is one of only two regions in the UK with a higher projected increase in poverty than Wales.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Ricky (Kris Hitchen) gets a job as a delivery driver. There was formal recognition that unfair work was a feature of the labour market in Wales, which was a positive step.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The next step is to set up the Office for Fair Work. From what I can see nothing has happened on that agenda yet. I await with interest to see what will happen.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>&#8216;Films like this are important in shining a light on the real horrific struggles that families face day to day&#8217;<\/p><cite>Rachel Cable<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Around 36,900 people were employed on zero-hour contracts in Wales last year. The commission said, \u201cthey create insecurity for those involved and are located in particular sectors such as social care\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe vast majority of people in the social care sector are women. Women are at greater risk of being in poverty. What\u2019s important is that women are in positions of decision-making and they\u2019re not always round the table currently,\u201d said Ms Cable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>This referred to the number of women MPs who will not stand at the next election, including Nicky Morgan, Amber Rudd and Heidi Allen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&quot;Your time is not your own, if I don&#39;t text my employer then I don&#39;t get paid. We will introduce new legislation to try and boost workers&#8217; rights, recalibrating the workplace with an employment relations act.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>But Ms Cable was sceptical over how prevalent poverty would be in the upcoming election campaign.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cI suspect the election will be dominated by Brexit. I hope that all parties will have tackling poverty at the top of their agenda.\u202fWe must protect the most vulnerable people in society.
