It\u2019s not a problem for us here, because we\u2019ve always had people of different faiths living side-by-side,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>St Mary\u2019s school choir opened the event with renditions of Kumbaya, This Little Light of Mine and She\u2019ll Be Comin\u2019 Round the Mountain. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Fr Dean then asked the children how they could help&nbsp;the climate crisis. Their ideas included: \u201cdon\u2019t throw away so much rubbish\u201d, \u201cturn off your TV\u201d and \u201cplant more trees\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mark Bryant, an Islamic scholar&nbsp;at Cardiff University, said: \u201cThis is the first time in human history that the only way we can get out of a problem is by working together. No one group\u2019s going to save itself.&nbsp; Are we grown-up enough as a species to work together?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s work together to fix the planet,&#8221; he added later.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Then when we have fixed the planet, we can argue about God!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Elbashir Idris, 24, a community activist from Butetown, described his recent holiday in Sudan. While there, he witnessed Omar Al-Bashir, the dictator of 30 years, being overthrown. Mr Idris stressed that global warming was hitting developing countries the hardest. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cPeople aren\u2019t running from wars; it\u2019s a lack of resources. They have no water and they have no bread.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Elbashir-Idris-1-700x400.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37795\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Elbashir-Idris-1-700x400.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37795\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>Elbashir Idris was impressed by the children&#8217;s suggestions.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Baha\u2019i representative, Viv Bartlett, quoted 19<sup>th <\/sup>Century leader of the&nbsp;faith, Baha&#8217;u&#8217;llah, when he said \u2018strange and astonishing things exist in the earth and they will prove lethal&#8217;. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cHowever, knowledge is not enough; we need some form of action,\u201d he continued.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Members of the Baha&#8217;i faith performed a drama about climate change in Wales, depicting extreme flooding in the valleys. \u201cI never thought it would affect me,\u201d said a \u201cvalley resident\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The drama was followed by routines from the Tamil Sangam dancers and drumming by members of the Sikh gurdwara in Grangetown.
