development that could be built on green space within the protected Taff River Corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The proposal, from Taff Housing Association, includes plans for 45 affordable homes with access for 182 residents from De Braose Close.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>A planning consultation is being carried out and an application will be submitted to Cardiff Council for approval.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>However, campaigners are preparing to launch a formal objection, as the site belongs to an area protected in Cardiff Council\u2019s Local Development Plan (LDP) and is home to woodland species including bats site. He said: \u201cI am really surprised that Taff Housing Association believes this is a worthwhile project.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cThe proposed development would forever remove a much-loved area of woodland and open space that the council has vowed to protect.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mr Field added that the development would only be reachable\nby a \u201ctortuous\u201d route through narrow planning applications.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>In 2006, an application for five homes was rejected because\nit risked damaging the area\u2019s rural character, and in 2014 an application for\n48 homes was turned down for the same reason, with an additional concern for highway\nsafety.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Woodland Trust stated during one prior application that,\ngiven time, the site\u2019s established saplings and mature oaks will develop into\nancient woods. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Helen Daniels, of Radyr Court Road, said: \u201cSeveral generations of families have valued and used this green space.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re supposed to be in the throes of planting billions of\ntrees to save the planet, so it seems undeniably reckless that existing\nwoodland, which is supposedly protected, could still be under threat from\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cCities need their breathing spaces, but the current\npressure to build more houses regardless of location is totally at odds with\nefforts to plant trees to help climate change.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" loading=\"lazy\" written by consultant Philippa Cole, the layout of the development will minimise the loss of trees by retaining a 15m buffer along the northern boundary.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Two public footpaths which cross the site will also remain,\nwhile an additional walkway is to be provided through remaining woodland along\nthe site\u2019s western edge.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>An excerpt from the statement\u2019s conclusion reads: \u201cA\ndetailed examination of the planning history of the site, its locational\ncontext and the proposals in the context of the policy framework has\ndemonstrated that the site is in accordance with policy and is highly\nsustainable.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<p>The residents&#8217; campaign has received support from Councillor Philippa Hill-John, while earlier this month, the Radyr and
