She said: \u201cI am a YMCA youth ambassador, so I work quite closely with them already.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cI requested if I could split the money so I could raise it for not only YMCA England and Wales, but for YMCA Barry too, as I know a lot of my little ones need some new equipment.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The charity helps children from newborns to the age of 18. The youngest at Barry YMCA currently is nine weeks old.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of the pieces of the equipment I want to raise money for is a gymnastics slope to do forward and backwards rolls,&#8221; said Megan.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is specially adapted so kids with disabilities can use it. Megan said: \u201cThe whole goal is just helping young people \u2013 it is honestly amazing. It is quite easy to see the great work YMCA does.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Megan has only ever run half marathons. \u201cTwo of them were for charity and that is what pushed me. My mum had a liver transplant and I was raising money for a support group for her and that inspired me.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cBefore that I couldn\u2019t run to the end of the street! I just want to keep fundraising for those who are less fortunate than me and need more help. This is an amazing opportunity to push myself further.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>She struggles with training sometimes as she suffers from Crohn\u2019s disease. But she has lots of support from the parents at the YMCA gym and her fellow youth ambassadors.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>She said: \u201cSometimes my\u00a0Crohn&#8217;s\u00a0disease does take over &#8211; but I will keep pushing, I will succeed!\u00a0Even if I walk\u00a0it,\u00a0I will get past the line for everyone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/megan-cooke-724x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38743\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/megan-cooke-724x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38743\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>Megan has never run a marathon before, but is determined to cross the line. <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Megan wants to start raising her \u00a32,000 goal before April. She is holding two raffles in the next few months.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>There will be a raffle for children at the YMCA gym with prizes ranging from teddy bears to free gym classes. Barry Town FC has also agreed to help with the raffle by providing signed T-shirts and footballs<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cI work quite closely with them and I am also hoping to get something from Cardiff City as well,\u201d\u00a0she said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>On\u00a0March 26 a comedy evening called Joke in the Oak will be held at Jenner Park Football Club. Megan is looking for businesses to help her out with the adult raffle to be drawn on the night.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf any business out there that I can help promote has anything that could be donated, I would be extremely thankful.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven with the children&#8217;s\u00a0raffle\u00a0\u2013 if you have toys that aren\u2019t used anymore\u00a0they could be donated.
