They need a lot of maintenance and there is a backlog of work. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>In the 2019\/20 Annual Property Plan, Cardiff Council called these parades a liability with \u201can overall detrimental effect on the quality and value of the Council\u2019s estate\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Of the 21 retail parades in Cardiff, it wants to sell the 14 most in need of investment. Llangranog Road and Fishguard Road are two of these.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"425\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Llangranog-Road-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38889\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/01\/Llangranog-Road-1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/01\/Llangranog-Road-1-300x206.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/01\/Llangranog-Road-1-500x343.jpg 500w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/01\/Llangranog-Road-1-293x201.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"425\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Llangranog-Road-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38889\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/01\/Llangranog-Road-1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/01\/Llangranog-Road-1-300x206.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/01\/Llangranog-Road-1-500x343.jpg 500w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/01\/Llangranog-Road-1-293x201.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>Coun Parkhill hopes the retail parade on Llangranog Road can be &#8220;restored to its former glory&#8221;.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Llanishen and Thornhill\u00a0councillor, Thomas Parkhill,\u00a0acknowledged that the parade on Llangranog Road was \u201cpretty run-down\u201d and\u00a0said the council originally planned to take full ownership of the properties in 2018 so it could redevelop them.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>A spokesperson for\u00a0Cardiff Council said plans to redevelop the properties fell through\u00a0last year\u00a0since it \u201ccould not secure vacant possession of the site due to long\u00a0leases in place\u201d,\u00a0so\u00a0it decided to sell its freehold interests to\u00a0support the council\u2019s General Fund.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Coun Parkhill\u00a0said that once the council sold the block on Llangranog Road he hoped to see it \u201crestored to its former glory\u00a0or rebuilt to be used as shops for the area\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Retired civil servant, Deb Lane, 58, from Rhiwbina, owns one of the vacant properties on the Llangranog Road  parade. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>She said one of the reasons the vacant properties began looking like an \u201ceyesore\u201d was because of the uncertainty surrounding their future.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mrs\u00a0Lane said she had struggled over the years to rent her property out and blamed the council\u2019s failure to disclose their intent as it had \u201cput everybody off investing any money in opening any businesses in the\u00a0properties\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat parade of shops could so easily have been occupied by thriving little businesses all these years instead of remaining empty and gradually looking in such a poor state,\u201d\u00a0she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Plans to sell 14 retail parades across Cardiff could raise \u00a340m TWO retail parades in Llanishen, on Llangranog Road and Fishguard Road, are being sold by Cardiff council this year.
