We give them some water, maybe some chocolate and walk with them to make sure they\u2019re safe,\u201d said Jackie Bradshaw, coordinator of Street Pastors Cardiff.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Operating in two teams the pastors work every Friday and Saturday night on Mill Lane, Greyfriars Road, St Mary Street and Churchill Way. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t try to do too much. There\u2019s an alcohol treatment centre on Charles Street with healthcare professionals. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all local Christians. One time we were trying a help a man find his hotel, it was his first time in Cardiff so he didn\u2019t know the\narea very well. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe was looking for a Travelodge on St Mary Street and it turned out we were standing right outside it!\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Purple Flag, launched in 2012, is an accreditation scheme similar to Blue Flags for beaches and is the gold standard for night-time destinations. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>To be accredited by the Association of Town and City Management towns and cities need to show they are safe and welcoming and there is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atcm.org\/purple-flag\">\u201cvibrant choice of leisure and entertainment for a diversity of ages, groups, lifestyles and cultures\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forcardiff.com\/for-cardiff-announce-their-successful-bid-to-remain-a-purple-flag-accredited-city\/\">FOR Cardiff<\/a> led the application with help from South Wales Police, Cardiff Council and the street pastors.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Cardiff has successfully renewed its <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PurpleFlagATCM?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@PurpleFlagATCM<\/a>  accreditation after evidencing that it is has an excellent offering for an entertaining, diverse, safe &amp; enjoyable night out. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0dztcT6JOM\">https:\/\/t.co\/0dztcT6JOM<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/adrian_field?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@adrian_field<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/swpolice?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@swpolice<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cardiffcouncil?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@cardiffcouncil<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StreetPastors?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@StreetPastors<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/helenbeddow?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@helenbeddow<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BTP?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BTP<\/a><\/p>&mdash; FOR Cardiff (@FOR_Cardiff) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FOR_Cardiff\/status\/1219900027918745600?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 22, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Adrian Field, executive director of FOR Cardiff, an association of city centre businesses, said<strong>:<\/strong> \u201cOur mission is to make sure the city centre is a welcoming and safe environment that can be enjoyed by everyone. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cCardiff can officially continue to be recognised for its varied\ncultural offering and its safety. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cFOR Cardiff are proud to lead on obtaining the Purple Flag award for the second year running and delighted we have been successful in retaining it.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;We just want people to get home safely,&#8217;\u00a0say street pastors, as city wins second Purple Flag CARDIFF has won the Purple Flag for the second time, recognising it as a safe night out &#8211; thanks in part to work from street pastors. \u201cIf people are vulnerable or not in a good way we try to help.
