href=\"http:\/\/www.barrywarmuseum.org.uk\/\">small war&nbsp;museum&nbsp;<\/a>which&nbsp;can be found at the railway station.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>It&nbsp;is open every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm, and every second Sunday of the month from 11am to 4pm.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Glenn Booker, 63, the chairman of Barry War Musuem, said: \u201cMany people&nbsp;say,&nbsp;\u2018Barry doesn\u2019t have a&nbsp;museum\u2019, but it does.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey say \u2018Barry doesn\u2019t have a war group&#8217;,&nbsp;but we&nbsp;do- we are a very harmonious group.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He told the audience at its last meeting that the&nbsp;war&nbsp;group does not glorify war. \u201cOur mission is to remind ourselves of the suffering, sacrifices and services of other people,\u201d he said.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Last night, volunteers from the Barry War Group held three presentations about different aspects of the two World Wars.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The turn-out was small, but it was clear the audience was a tight-knit community that comes together to celebrate the heroic figures of the past.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div you can find all the information you need about The Bevin Boys.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;most notable&nbsp;presentation was from Jackie Swift, 59, an expert in the Bevin Boys,&nbsp;young British men who were conscripted to work in the coalmines&nbsp;across the UK&nbsp;during World War II.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>It was the fourth time&nbsp;Mrs&nbsp;Swift has presented, after taking over from her late friend, Warwick Taylor, the&nbsp;former vice-president of The Bevin Boys Association.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mrs&nbsp;Swift has interviewed&nbsp;many Bevin Boys and written a seven-part TV drama called, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theforgottenconscript.co.uk\/who-were-the-bevin-boys\/\">The Forgotten Conscripts.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<p>A trailer has been filmed for the period drama, but production&nbsp;of the series&nbsp;is yet to take place.&nbsp;Mrs Swift&nbsp;also&nbsp;hopes to write a novel&nbsp;on the same theme.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Rosemary Chaloner,&nbsp;a volunteer at the museum,&nbsp;also presented and&nbsp;spoke about the history of holidays entrepreneur Billy&nbsp;Butlin who was a&nbsp;soldier in World War I.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Billy&nbsp;Butlin&nbsp;is famous for&nbsp;his holiday camps, one of which he created in Barry Island, the first permanent place for his travelling fair.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<figure mannequin of a Bevin Boy was on display in the museum. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>The Barry Island Butlins holiday camp&nbsp;closed in 1996, but long-term residents remember the camp and often wish for its return.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Facebook group, Butlins Barry Island, is a page for residents to share memories and photographs of the camp.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>As the night&nbsp;ended, Glenn Booker said, \u201cIf you enjoy the war museum, make sure you write to the papers and let them know about us.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The group advertises outside the Barry Island Railway Station and&nbsp;on its&nbsp;Facebook page, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/barryatwarmuseum\/\">Barry at War Museum. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The next talk&nbsp;will be&nbsp;held on&nbsp;February&nbsp;27 with speakers still to be
