Image: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/tax-on-shopping\/alcohol-tobacco\">UK Government website<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Proposed rises for taxes on all alcohol were backed by the\nInstitute of Alcohol Studies, who said it could save the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/home-news\/alcohol-tax-cuts-duty-deaths-crime-budget-beer-cider-wine-a9151381.html\">NHS\n\u00a3794m by 2032<\/a> \u2013 but this also included levies on spirits, wines and\ncider.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n<p>According to Long Live the Local, beer tax disproportionately harms pubs because seven out of 10 drinks sold in them are beer. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mr Olsen said he added his name to the campaign in January when\ndirector of SA Brain, Alistair Darby, encouraged his pubs to sign it. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou see the effects quite a bit in daytime trade. People\npick and choose since they\u2019ve only got so much disposable income.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<p>A spokesperson for SA Brain said: \u201cAs Wales\u2019 leading\nbrewer and pub retailer we recognise the vital role pubs play in our local\ncommunities and want to protect them as much as possible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cBeer taxes in the UK are among the\nhighest in Europe and \u00a31 in every \u00a33 spent in a pub goes straight to the\ntaxman. This gets passed down to the pub, and then onto the consumer.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Tiny Rebel owns three bars: one in Cardiff and two in\nNewport which all sell their own beers.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t really put cheap beer out, but I imagine the pubs\nwho do rely on that will be hurt. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut I can see both points of view.
