DIY parking restrictions, signs and&nbsp;cones \u2013&nbsp;present for a couple of years.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>It is not just residential areas where&nbsp;illegal parking&nbsp;cones are appearing. Barry High Street&nbsp;have been caught&nbsp;with&nbsp;cones outside the shops to save spaces.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Dan Gunnery, 42,&nbsp;a&nbsp;Barry&nbsp;resident, said:&nbsp;\u201cShop owners on&nbsp;the&nbsp;high street block parts of the road [with cones] to save a space.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThen they wrongly have a go at anyone that moves&nbsp;[the cones].\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/traffic-cone-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-39977\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/traffic-cone-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-39977\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>Traffic cones placed on the high street has stopped Mr Gunnery from doing his job.<br \/><strong>Photo Credit<\/strong>: Ivan Radic via Flickr<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Mr&nbsp;Gunnery is a&nbsp;window cleaner and the cones outside shop entrances mean he can&nbsp;no&nbsp;longer work on the high street, as he has&nbsp;nowhere&nbsp;to park his&nbsp;van.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy work equipment is attached to my van, my hose is fixed to and connected to a water tank inside so I can\u2019t just park&nbsp;two&nbsp;streets away,\u201d he said.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut I still get abuse when I move [the shops] cones and signs&nbsp;even though I\u2019m only there&nbsp;for&nbsp;20 minutes at a time.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery vehicle&nbsp;that&#8217;s&nbsp;legal to be on the road has just as much right to park anywhere the same as everyone else.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>However, not all residents are frustrated by the illegal parking signs. <a href=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2018\/11\/27\/people-forced-to-play-tetris-with-parked-cars-in-barry\/\">Parking in Barry has always been a problem<\/a> and&nbsp;saving parking spaces&nbsp;has been some residents\u2019&nbsp;only option.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Twitter user, Anne Usher, said: \u201c&nbsp;I might take a leaf out of their book and double yellow line the end of my road.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cShop lorries block the exit and entrance to&nbsp;my&nbsp;street&nbsp;&#8211; nobody else will deal with the problems.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Locals posted&nbsp;pictures in a Facebook group that was set up to highlight dangerous and inconsiderate parking in Barry.&nbsp;The group called \u2018Driving like a TW*T in Barry,\u2019 has over 1,000 members.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Vale of\u00a0Glamorgan\u00a0council has been contacted for a comment.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>However, a Cardiff council spokesperson previously said: \u201cPutting things like cones or wheelie bins on the street to block out space without permission is an offence under the Highways Act, and anyone caught could be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of \u00a3100.&#8221;\u00a0  <\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li> You can report illegally or inappropriately parked vehicles to the&nbsp;council,&nbsp;by contacting the parking manager directly at Bridgend&nbsp;on 01656 634643.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/li><li> Any&nbsp;reported issues will be logged and monitored as soon as possible.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vale&nbsp;of&nbsp;Glamorgan&nbsp;council are being asked to remove&nbsp;parking&nbsp;cones that&nbsp;appear around residential and business areas.&nbsp; ILLEGAL traffic\u00a0cones are appearing outside residential and business areas\u00a0in\u00a0Barry\u00a0much to the annoyance of locals. \u00a0 Andrew Thomas, 46,\u00a0noticed some\u00a0cones\u00a0illegally placed\u00a0on\u00a0a residential\u00a0street in Barry.\u00a0\u00a0 He said: \u201cParking is a contentious issue for us all sometimes&nbsp;&#8211; we may agree with the rules and enforcements&nbsp;or&nbsp;we may&nbsp;not.&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cHowever,&nbsp;from what appears to me as the creation of your own parking rules&#8230;seems to be a step too far.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The&nbsp;issue&nbsp;was brought&nbsp;to light on Twitter after [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":118,"featured_media":39965,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[144,145,425,426,427,428,429],"coauthors":[],"class_list":["post-39823","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-barry","tag-barry","tag-barry-island","tag-barry-parking","tag-illegal-parking-signs","tag-vale-of-glamorgan","tag-vale-of-glamorgan-council","tag-vog"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.2 -
