There\u2019s the <a href=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2020\/01\/21\/new-cafe-at-llanedeyrn-powerhouse-hub-to-focus-on-healthy-eating\/\">Llanedeyrn Powerhouse Hub<\/a>, which does a wonderful job, and a private leisure centre, but apart from that there\u2019s not many community facilities in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe already host a lunch club, a bowls club, two children\u2019s clubs, a community gardening group and youth club, and we have larger activities throughout the year like the Christmas fair and soccer school.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo, we just need more space, we are at capacity.\nWe knew we needed to extend the building and we wanted to build an annex on the\nfront.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had a capital development grant in 2018 from the National Lottery, which we used to explore the possibility of doing this, including surveys and architect drawings.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were then invited to apply for a second grant,\nso we did this in October 2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The building will have a lift system and space for a cr\u00e8che, a teaching kitchen, therapy rooms, garden, space, and improved access. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mrs Tugwell said these changes would expand the services available: \u201cWe\u2019ve already got some programmes in mind: a healthy nutrition cooking course, mental health and well-being facilities, and a debt and benefit advice drop-in service, for example. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking to sustain our current staff\nbase, and we\u2019ve got a great volunteer base of over 100 amazing volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe lottery team are amazing, they\u2019ve been\nso helpful,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Staff at Glenwood Church estimate the project will start in March and be completed in November, in time for a busy Christmas. <\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-facebook aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-facebook\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div><script async=\"1\" defer=\"1\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_GB\/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v8.0\" nonce=\"C1DkrxSG\"><\/script><div class=\"fb-post\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/glenwoodchurchcardiff\/posts\/3473296349410676\" data-width=\"750\"><blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/glenwoodchurchcardiff\/posts\/3473296349410676\" class=\"fb-xfbml-parse-ignore\"><p>***NEW WELLBEING SPACE FOR LLANEDEYRN &amp; PENTWYN!***We have been awarded a People and Places grant for a community&#8230;<\/p>Posted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/glenwoodchurchcardiff\/\">Glenwood Church Cardiff<\/a> on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/glenwoodchurchcardiff\/posts\/3473296349410676\">Thursday, 6 February 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Emma Sandrey, Liberal Democrat Councillor\nfor Pentwyn and Llanedeyrn said: \u201cIt\u2019s great that Glenwood has won this\nfunding. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe know how important it is that people\nare able to access services in the community and the focus on well-being will\nbe particularly welcome. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cHopefully this will greatly improve the\nability for people to get help local to them in a friendly and welcoming\natmosphere,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Joe Carter, also Liberal Democrat\nCouncillor for Pentwyn and Llanedeyrn said: \u201cGlenwood Church Centre has such a positive\nimpact on the community, so it is vital it will have the space to expand.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>There are currently 59 on-going projects in Cardiff supported by the National Lottery Community Fund. It last awarded money to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tnlcommunityfund.org.uk\/funding\/grants\/0031060898\">Pentwyn in 2018, to support a dance festival <\/a>in the area. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>A spokesman for the National Lottery Community Fund said: \u201cOur aim with how we award National Lottery money is to support and enable communities to thrive, and we were impressed with how well their project met the aims of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tnlcommunityfund.org.uk\/funding\/programmes\/people-and-places-large-grants#section-1\">People and Places funding programme<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe well-being space will be dedicated to\nserving the communities of Pentwyn and Llanederyn in North East Cardiff.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Lottery helps Glenwood centre offer more facilities to residents GLENWOOD Church, Llanedeyrn, has been awarded \u00a3500,000 by the National Lottery Community Fund Wales to build a new community centre.
