<\/p>\n\n\n<p>They can be found in public locations, such as schools and railway stations, and are often stored in a cabinet or plastic case. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/defib-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-40025\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/02\/defib-2.jpg 620w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/02\/defib-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/02\/defib-2-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/02\/defib-2-293x220.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/defib-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-40025\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/02\/defib-2.jpg 620w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/02\/defib-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/02\/defib-2-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/02\/defib-2-293x220.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>A defibrillator in Cardiff Central railway station<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>A survey on Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrests\n(OCHA), found that only 38% of respondents said they would be confident about\nusing a defibrillator. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Sudden cardiac arrests can happen with no\nwarning and chances of survival decrease by up to 10% for every minute that\ngoes by without any treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>However, if a defibrillator can be used\nwithin one minute of a cardiac arrest, that person\u2019s chance of survival can be\nas high as 90%. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Defibrillators include step-by-step instructions of how to use them, so anyone in an emergency should be able to use the device. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>However, St John Cymru\u2019s courses let people know what to expect and make them more confident to use one in a stressful, emergency situation.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The training also covers CPR, which an\nindividual may also be required to perform even though a defibrillator has been\napplied.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>It was also found that 55% of people in Wales do not know the location of their nearest defibrillator. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>St John Cymru hope to improve this by encouraging people to locate their nearest defibrillator and share a picture of it online with #defibruary. <\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Wandering around abergavenny    this morning and I saw this.
