{"id":40078,"date":"2020-02-11T11:43:27","date_gmt":"2020-02-11T11:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=40078"},"modified":"2020-02-11T11:43:27","modified_gmt":"2020-02-11T11:43:27","slug":"new-glee-club-for-radyrs-rising-stars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2020\/02\/11\/new-glee-club-for-radyrs-rising-stars\/","title":{"rendered":"New Glee Club for Radyr\u2019s rising young musical stars"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shine Theatre School promotes confidence and friendships among its young performers&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/feature-image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-40079\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/feature-image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-40079\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>Photo Credit: Shine Creative Arts<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>SHINE Theatre School, Radyr, is launching a Glee Club performance choir offering singing tuition to children aged eight to 15.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The new class, which will begin on Tuesday 25 February, was inspired by the popularity of recent musical films such as Trolls, Pitch Perfect and The Greatest Showman, as well as Disney favourites.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Shine Creative Arts was founded in 2009 by former Cardiff University student Hannah Williams.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>It began with after-school classes and pre-school music sessions in private nurseries around Cardiff, before Shine Theatre School opened in Radyr in 2012.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are very excited about our new Glee Club,\u201d said Ms Williams.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe idea was born out of how many of our members love to sing. Singing in particular has been shown to have so many benefits. It helps social bonding, builds community and social cohesion and is a great way to meet friends,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen you learn to sing, you learn to breathe well, use your diaphragm and increase your oxygen intake and lung capacity. This also helps people deal with anxiety and panic attacks.&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Sally Ribeiro\u2019s daughter Ariana, nine, joined Shine Theatre School aged five.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cInitially I just thought that drama might be something that she would enjoy. As a toddler, she would sing and act around the house,\u201d said Ms Ribeiro.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cLike most mums, I spent an anxious two hours during her first session, wondering if she was enjoying herself. My fears were quickly swept away when she came running out bursting with excitement and enthusiasm. She has simply never looked back.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Shine hope the Glee Club will bring these benefits to more children in Radyr and surrounding area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think if my girls did not attend Shine they wouldn\u2019t have the same confidence and would not have had such amazing opportunities open up for them,\u201d said Bethan Tobin.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Ms Tobin credits Shine with giving her daughters Amelia, twelve, and Sienna, 9, the skills to take on performance challenges beyond their Saturday classes, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.rspca.org.uk\/2018\/11\/15\/schools-in-wales-urged-to-grab-place-at-rspca-2019-debating-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RSPCA Great Debate<\/a> at Cardiff City Hall and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howells-cardiff.gdst.net\/news-article\/esu-primary-schools-public-speaking-competition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">speaking competitions at Howell\u2019s School<\/a>, Llandaff. It is a great opportunity for the children to meet and make friends with children from other schools and getting to perform in high quality productions instils both confidence and pride in youngsters,\u201d said Ms Ribeiro.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cAriana has made some lovely friends within the group and completely adores the Shine team who are unfailingly encouraging and nurturing.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>No experience is needed to go along to the new, non-audition Glee Club and every child gets two weeks to trial the class before committing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe hope to attract young people who love to sing.
