residents.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>They&nbsp;have launched a petition to improve the safety of the&nbsp;junction between Kimberley Road and Blenheim Road.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been here six years, and there\u2019s been a huge amount of accidents,\u201d said Melissa Boothman, owner of Penylan Pantry, a caf\u00e9&nbsp;on the junction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy&nbsp;worry is that if it\u2019s left&nbsp;and done later, somebody\u2019s going to get really&nbsp;hurt&nbsp;or something serious is going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo&nbsp;it&#8217;s&nbsp;about applying pressure and going &#8216;Come on, let\u2019s get this done now&nbsp;please&#8217;,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The junction has attracted attention for accidents and near misses&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/news\/wales-news\/car-just-inches-away-hitting-16490596\">caught on&nbsp;CCTV<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve had a car that\u2019s driven into the pantry,&nbsp;we\u2019ve had a car that\u2019s knocked down a lamppost \u2013 it came up onto the pavement and hit two&nbsp;bikes,\u201d said Ms Boothman.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere&nbsp;wasn\u2019t&nbsp;anyone on the bikes, thankfully.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video decade<\/strong>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>The petition is asking for road calming measures&nbsp;to be a priority \u2013 for example, a tabled junction where the centre is raised to slow down traffic in the same way as speed bumps.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>She said she had seen about one serious accident a month&nbsp;as well as hearing someone beep their horn daily.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>At the junction, Blenheim Road has&nbsp;right of way over Kimberley Road \u2013 but visibility&nbsp;was bad and drivers on Kimberley Road often didn\u2019t stop, said Ms Boothman&nbsp;explained.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If you have somebody that&nbsp;shoots straight&nbsp;across Kimberley Road, they\u2019re supposed to give way, and then you have somebody travelling up or down Blenheim Road at speed, then that\u2019s when the collision happens,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich hotspot. There have been numerous injuries but at some&nbsp;point,&nbsp;we worry something worse could happen.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe strength of feeling in the local community is demonstrated by this petition&nbsp;organised&nbsp;with local Lib Dem&nbsp;councillors. We urge the council to listen to residents\u2019 concerns.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Cardiff Council has recognised the junction as&nbsp;dangerous and&nbsp;will include it in a 2021 bid for funding from the Welsh Government.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Yep, when over 20 residents brave the elements on a winter\u2019s evening you know it\u2019s a major concern and that they\u2019re looking for quick action to make the junction safer espec as it\u2019s a major route to\/from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/marlboroughpri?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@marlboroughpri<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Jeremy Sparkes (@JeremySparkes) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JeremySparkes\/status\/1225764650719076353?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 7, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>But councillors and residents are asking for&nbsp;its&nbsp;safety to be improved sooner&nbsp;and the petition calls for the junction to be a key priority in the 2020-21 financial year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cCardiff Council knows how serious this is and has identified a scheme that we think will make things safer,\u201d said Coun&nbsp;Boyle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cHowever, we need them to deliver that scheme&nbsp;in the near future.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf that requires Welsh Government funding, then the council and the government must make this a priority, work together and guarantee that the money is in place to get the calming measures built.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Ms Boothman said she hoped people were as concerned as her.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cPressure&nbsp;from the bottom up does&nbsp;work, and if&nbsp;we&nbsp;want to see a safer area then&nbsp;we can,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s OK for us to get together and apply pressure.&nbsp;I\u2019m hoping&nbsp;that the community&nbsp;come together to push and rally to get something done.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The petition is available on the Cardiff Lib Dems\u2019&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiffld.org.uk\/kimberley_blenheim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Petition raised over Penylan accident hotspot famous for crashes caught on CCTV A&nbsp;JUNCTION&nbsp;that sees regular accidents and near misses needs to be&nbsp;made safer quickly,&nbsp;say Penylan&nbsp;councillors&nbsp;and residents.&nbsp;
