There\u2019s a history of cricket in\nthe family and I\u2019m lucky to have been able to play for so many teams over the\nyears.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He began at Pontarddulais Cricket Club near Swansea aged 10\nand has since played for St Fagans and Creigiau. After going to a trial for the\nWales seniors\u2019 team, he qualified and plays as a middle-order batsman in around\n30 games, meaning he\u2019s a good batter and bowler.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He has also coached for younger teams over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Martin needs to raise money for kit for the World Cup and\nchose Creigiau Cricket Club as one of his sponsors. They recently held a quiz\nnight with cheese and wine and raised \u00a3600 to support him.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mr Powell said: \u201cMy taking part in this tournament is a real\ncommunity effort, I couldn\u2019t do it without my home team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Tomos Innes, the Creigiau Club captain said: \u201cWe are a small village on the outskirts of Cardiff, so we try to do a lot that involves the community because the team spirit is so strong here. The first tournament was held in Sydney in 2018 and eight teams participated, including Wales, after they defeated Australia in their 2017 UK tour. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Jim Morrison, tournament co-organiser, said: \u201cThe Wales team were extremely popular at the 2018 World Cup, with their propensity to break into song at the drop of a hat, their friendly nature, enthusiastic supporters, and their beautiful red blazers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mr Powell said the Wales team are the underdogs but shouldn\u2019t be underestimated. We are a very close-knit group,\u201d said Mr\nPowell. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>The team are playing in a difficult pool, against strong\nteams including England and India, but hope to get into the top 6. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mr Innes said on behalf of the Creigiau Cricket Club: \u201cGood luck to Martin and the team, we\u2019re so proud.
