After the collision the cyclist stopped and stayed with Dr Costa\u00f1o, who has not reported the incident to police.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>An ambulance took her to Heath Hospital with injuries to her neck, a suspected wrist fracture, bruises on her knees, and lesions and cuts to her back. She is due to return to hospital for more scans. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy biggest fear was a spinal fracture,&#8221;  said Dr Costa\u00f1o, who has a previous injury in her lower back.  <\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I don\u2019t have that, but I am sure I have something else because I\u2019ve been in massive pain for the last three days.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Altolusso is one of the tallest buildings in Cardiff and is home to 293 apartments and hundreds of residents.  <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Patrick Mullane, the block&#8217;s concierge, said: \u201cSomeone will die because of this.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Dr Costa\u00f1o, who is writing a book, is recovering at home but is unable to type except for urgent emails.  <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a public concern, there has to be signalling or something to protects the residents. If this happened to a child, it would kill them,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cHundreds of people live here, and they walk in and out all\nday.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Simon Rees, 50, who has lived at Altolusso for the 15 years, waited for the ambulance with Dr Costa\u00f1o for over an hour. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>He lives with a nine-month-old son and leaves the building through the side door or steps outside before his son to avoid an accident. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s only going to be a matter of time before someone is\nseriously injured. Hopefully, it\u2019s not going to be a child. Something needs to\nbe done,\u201d said Mr Rees. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mr Rees said he has witnessed three similar accidents in the last four years. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe cycling lanes aren\u2019t working,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s tolerated in the city centre so cyclists think they can ride anywhere. We need something as simple as a bollard to act as a deterrent.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Someone must be responsible for the bikes, not just for the people riding the bikes\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Jay Patel, resident of Altolusso, said: \u201cI see it every day (cars parking on the cycle path) including taxis and delivery drivers.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<p>However, other residents are unaware of the issue. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Dr Costa\u00f1o said: \u201cI had no idea about the issue at all\nbefore I was hit.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cA car will not drive onto the pavement. Bicycles need to be taken more seriously in terms of movement. There\u2019s a grey area over regulation and responsibility.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Altolusso, built in 2005, is popular with international students and families.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Dr Costa\u00f1o said: \u201cThere are people who aren\u2019t from the UK,\nso people don\u2019t know who to approach. They just think \u2018oh, this is fine\u2019. It\u2019s\nnot \u2013 we need to treat it as a collective problem.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Dr Costa\u00f1o is working with managers of the building to help\nwarn other residents.
