charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><figcaption>In another Tweet, Mr Hall encouraged new shops to open up in the area<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Currently, there\nare five empty storefronts on the street, which residents say has been in\ndecline since two banks closed in 2018. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cI had no idea\nof the devastating effect that would have on footfall \u2013 suddenly there\u2019s half\nthe number of people there was before,\u201d said Mr Hall. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think my shop\nis the best it\u2019s ever been, so I know I\u2019m not the problem \u2013 we need the bank reopened\nas soon as possible and we need those other units filled.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cWe need to get the buzz back \u2013 I wouldn\u2019t even\nmind if somebody opened up another card shop.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Already this\nyear, two businesses have closed their premises on High Street. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Trader&#8217;s cocktail bar has shut down after opening less than two years ago, while the owner of Hairhouse hairdressers has moved the business to her home after nearly 20 years. <\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"935\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>Trader&#8217;s closed recently after less than two years on High Street<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Mr Hall said\nthat in 40 years he had never seen the environment so tough, explaining that\nwithout a strong concept, small businesses struggle to last because of high\nrents and rates. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Another problem\nhe cited was the influence of local committees and conservation societies, which\ndisapprove of certain types of enterprise and impede planning applications. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Speaking about his\nTwitter appeal, Mr Hall said: \u201cIf I don\u2019t stir it up, nobody else will \u2013 we\u2019re\ngetting left behind.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Several residents\nagreed with Mr Hall on Twitter, suggesting that they would like to see a\ngreengrocers, bakery or charity shop in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Councillor Sean Driscoll also\nresponded to the posts, writing: \u201cWe must do more as a council to help our high\nstreets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Coun Driscoll
