have taken place across Cardiff to help businesses and homes affected by recent storms.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>From bake sales to curry nights, local businesses and\norganisations have come up with creative ideas to raise money.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Hardlines coffee shop and roastery in Canton has raised \u00a3700 for the Green Man Trust through a bake sale and pledged to double this amount to \u00a31,400.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe idea was to raise money for some of the towns and\ncommunities affected by the recent flooding,\u201d said Matt Jones, 28.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" loading=\"lazy\" Green Man festival,\nwhich takes place every August near Crickhowell.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The trust aims to create opportunities for artist development, support for disadvantaged people, science engagement and Welsh communities.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>It has pledged \u00a310,000 to help flooded communities through\nan online scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mr Jones said the Hardlines team came across the Green Man\nTrust while looking for crowdfunders and charities raising money for the\nfloods.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u201cA lot of people are asking us where they can put their money and what they can do so we just thought if we offer some kind of community-led bucket, people can come and donate,\u201d added Mr Jones. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got a decent relationship with Green Man as a\nfestival and we still work with them closely throughout the year anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom our perspective, the cleanest way of raising some\nmoney is by moving it to the Green Man Trust and then they can work within\nthose communities and put the money where it needs to be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" loading=\"lazy\" staff\nwere inspired to raise money after seeing the effects of flooding on areas such\nas Mountain Ash and the Rhondda Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got friends, colleagues and other businesses we work with &#8211; Secret Garden in Bute Park and the traders at the Riverside Market &#8211; who have been affected.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt felt close enough to home to feel like we needed to\noffer something, and I\u2019m sure there are lots of people doing their best to\nraise money as well.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Staff baked for the fundraiser as well as receiving donations from businesses including Wild Thing, Inner City Pickle, Flapjack Nation, Pettigrew Tearooms and Friends in Knead, whose roof was partially blown off during <a href=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2020\/02\/11\/counting-the-cost-of-ciara-while-the-menace-of-denis-awaits\/\">Storm Ciara<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Regular customers also donated their baked goods.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Eartha, a plant shop in Roath, also gave a plant for people\nto bid on and Zak Thomas, a Hardlines barista and tattoo artist, offered a tattoo\nfor a donation to the charity.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Although Hardlines has been running a shop in Cardiff Market for a few years, it opened its Canton location three months ago, where it roasts its own coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure by flooding through a curry fundraiser. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe main stretch of road between Aldi and Waitrose flooded,\u201d said Lily Chapman, lifestyle leader at Ty Enfys.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur general manager, Sujjata Singh, cooked curry with sides to sell &#8211; it goes down well every year at our summer fete. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe sold curry to residents, team members and people in the\ncommunity. We also had a raffle, which closes at the end of March, with prizes\ndonated by Castell Howell and a donation of a family pass from the Newport\nDragons.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Ty Enfys has a \u00a31,000 fundraising target and has so far raised \u00a3155 on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/fundraising-for-south-wales-flood-victims\">GoFundMe page<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Together with in-house donations and fundraising, this figure has reached \u00a3824, said Ms Chapman.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2020\/02\/04\/radyrs-first-female-captain-excited-to-take-on-new-role\/\">Radyr Golf Club<\/a> is also raising money through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/community-support-following-floods\">donations page<\/a> that was set up last week.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have had some members that were affected by the flooding\nand we just wanted to do our bit to raise money,\u201d said Stuart Finlay, the golf\nclub\u2019s manager. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>The club, which has over 600 members, sent out an email with\na link to a GoFundMe page for people to donate. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>So far, \u00a3430 has been raised of the club\u2019s \u00a3,1000 target, with some members also offering cash donations. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>The club has seen the effects of flooding within the community. Its head chef, who lives in Bedwas, had his house flooded, and other club members have also been affected. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are a couple of members we haven\u2019t heard from living in affected areas,\u201d said Mr Finlay.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe industrial park has been hit quite hard and Morganstown\nand Pugh\u2019s Garden Village have been badly affected too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Pugh\u2019s Garden Village had to close one day last month due to severe flooding in the surrounding area. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Last week, an unsafe tree that was being taken down\nfollowing storm damage landed on the garden centre\u2019s lodge, meaning that they\nhad to cancel their toddler group event, Little Seedlings. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Nobody was hurt, but the roof needs to be fixed. Those who have booked to use the lodge have been offered new dates or refunds. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were all talking about the flooding in work and our\ngeneral committee agreed to raise as much as we can to help out,\u201d said Mr Finlay.<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>You can report flooding in your home or street by calling the Welsh Government emergency line on  029 2087 2087 and selecting option five<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cardiff fundraising events arranged following damage caused by storms FUNDRAISING events have taken place across Cardiff to help businesses and homes affected by recent storms.
