So, there\u2019s lots of sounds of the city,\u201d\nshe said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cI went around recording people talking, bands playing, jazz bars,\nfootsteps. They\u2019re all in the background. It gives us movement and progress.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The middle song on the album, <em>IBT,<\/em> is a recording of her mother\u2019s choir, and links to the market on St Mary Street.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey sing every Saturday in town raising money for good causes, and\nthey\u2019ve been doing it for 40 years, so they\u2019re a part of the city, everyone\nknows them. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Ani also incorporates her father, with <em>Cathedral in the Desert <\/em>linking to Eglwys Dewi Sant, the Welsh-language church he attends.<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery about Cardiff University\u2019s Glamorgan building.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s where I really started my journey of trying to understand\nCardiff in a different way, and it was a really inspiring place to be,\u201d said Ani.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cI suppose the main thread running through the album is one of becoming\ninspired. I came home and looked at the place around me differently. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019re all trying to reflect the world around us in order to\nunderstand it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>After studying fashion as an undergraduate in Liverpool, and then living\nin Brighton, Ani returned to Cardiff and is now studying for a PhD in Economical and\nRegional Development. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Ani said: \u201cAs well as creatively\napproaching the city around me, I\u2019m also practically doing it.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/4348822892_f7dbfcd7af_b-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-41829\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/4348822892_f7dbfcd7af_b-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-41829\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>Cardiff University&#8217;s Glamorgan building, where Ani studies and finds inspiration<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen you move away and come back to your hometown, you see how a place\nchanges, and the contrasts are much greater. I wanted to understand the changes\nthat are going on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Ani has even hinted at a listening party on one of Cardiff\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/city-sightseeing.com\/en\/88\/cardiff\">sightseeing tour buses<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow cool would it be if everyone plugged their headphones into the PA\nsystem and we toured around all the locations? They\nfeel like they should understand it, but then they don\u2019t quite. They might even\nget some of the words. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a Celtic nation we have an affinity with the other Celtic languages,\nbut the difference is that Cornwall has no funding for their language. It\u2019s\njust individuals speaking it for the love of it.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a Welsh-speaker, that was an interesting thing to recognise and\nreflect on. Although we have a long way to go, we are in a far better position\nthan Cornwall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>With such strong familial influences, <em>MIRORES <\/em>is clearly a deeply personal work, and one that\u2019s been years in the making. So how does Ani feel about releasing it?<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/FEATURED-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-41836\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jomec.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/FEATURED-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-41836\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption>Her debut album has a bubble-gum pink aesthetic<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s liberating as well as scary. Now it\u2019s out of my hands and people\nwill make of it what they want,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s important is that I\u2019m happy with it. But these venues closing doesn\u2019t mean we won\u2019t get new venues\nappearing. We\u2019ll find a new place to make some noise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>With positive reactions to previews, <em>MIRORES <\/em>is set to be a hit.
