If you live in a tower-block and the green space that\u2019s&nbsp;really close&nbsp;and&nbsp;really accessible&nbsp;to you is about to be built on, how isolating and bad for your mental health that meadows development have been discussed for many years, with each new necessary planning application causing delays and being met with fresh objections.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Campaigners argue that contemporary environment commitments, including declaration of a climate change emergency, made by both Cardiff Council and the Welsh Government, should be taken into consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Alternative, brownfield sites have been suggested by&nbsp;campaigners&nbsp;and previously considered, including the nearby old&nbsp;Whitchurch&nbsp;Hospital,&nbsp;a grade \/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>The meadows are one part of a wider nature area, home to a heronry and many wild animals such as various birds and fish, foxes, badgers and&nbsp;hedgehogs.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Over 11,000 objectors have also signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/welsh-government-save-the-northern-meadows-from-development\">a petition<\/a> set up by&nbsp;Tessa&nbsp;Marshall&nbsp;on behalf of the Save Northern&nbsp;Meadows group.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The proposed development&nbsp;is being funded by the Welsh Government&nbsp;as part of their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gov.wales\/mutual-investment-model-infrastructure-investment\">Mutual Investment Model (MIM)&nbsp;<\/a>for delivering&nbsp;infrastructure&nbsp;schemes&nbsp;in partnership with the private sector.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Senedd&nbsp;member Niel McEvoy attended the protest and has voiced support for the cause, this week sending a letter to the&nbsp;Ministers for Health and Environment, asking&nbsp;for urgent&nbsp;call-in&nbsp;of the development plan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>However,&nbsp;Deputy Minister for Health and&nbsp;Senedd&nbsp;member for&nbsp;Cardiff&nbsp;North, Julie Morgan, supports the proposals.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div The Northern Meadows have been a part of the Cardiff North Community since 1993. This area has been untouched for decades, allowing nature to grow and thrive.
