Scared by stories of full stomachs from just\u00a0one course after succumbing to the temptations of a full English roast\u00a0&#8211; leaving a whole eight cuisines yet to be explored &#8211; I entered FED\u00a0feeling prepared, slightly apprehensive, and definitely very hungry.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-4320 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_0044-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0044\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-4320 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_0044-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0044\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/noscript><br \/>\nUnveiled last month to great fanfare, FED is the brainchild of Sachin\u00a0and Shailesh Bajpai, formerly of similar venture Red Hot World\u00a0Buffet. As its debut branch, the next few months will be make or\u00a0break for the Bajpai brothers in their central location just by\u00a0Cineworld, entering Cardiff\u2019s booming gastronomic scene alongside\u00a0established big-name branches like Wahaca and Burger &amp; Lobster.<br \/>\nSo how\u2019s the food? We kicked things off with a slightly haphazard mix\u00a0of sushi, Mediterranean salad and sweet and sour chicken \u2013 no\u00a0matter how hard you try, it is very difficult to keep your plate looking\u00a0coherent and resist piling on everything that catches your eye.<br \/>\n\u2018It\u2019s all\u00a0paid for! Why not?!\u2019 becomes the oft-repeated mantra on circuits of\u00a0the buffet carts, leading to sights such as folded pizza wedged in\u00a0between a dollop of tikka masala and a quesadilla. But our first combination was an unexpected success, and left four diners\u00a0satisfied.<br \/>\nAlthough some dishes were inevitably disliked along our epic journey\u00a0through the continents, the quality of food is generally solid and consistent; few will be expecting fine dining, but make the right picks\u00a0and<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-4319 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_0031-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0031\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-4319 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_0031-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0031\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/noscript><br \/>\nthere is some really excellent food to be discovered. There are\u00a0few unusual surprises to try out, but with so much on offer this is\u00a0understandable.<br \/>\nOne of the best features is the grill and seafood counter where fresh\u00a0food is cooked to order and delivered to your table. This is where you\u00a0really get your money\u2019s worth, as well as by passing on pizza and\u00a0chips and stockpiling on generally more expensive dishes such as\u00a0calamari, hoisin duck pancakes and honey-glazed ribs.<br \/>\nA sophisticated date destination FED is not so much, but nor does it\u00a0purport to be. The d\u00e9cor is bright and cheerful, the music somewhat reminiscent of a late 90s school disco, and the style of dining lends\u00a0itself all too easily to over-indulgence.
