He is eligible to play in the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The 6ft 2in and 20st 11lbs loosehead\nis renowned for his carrying ability, though it is yet to be seen how good he is\nin the scrum.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-datawrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Pro 14 percentage of scrums won\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/OGS8Q\/1\/#?secret=dwOUXoepFM\" data-secret=\"dwOUXoepFM\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"402\"><\/iframe><noscript><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Pro 14 percentage of scrums won\" src=\"https:\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/OGS8Q\/1\/#?secret=dwOUXoepFM\" data-secret=\"dwOUXoepFM\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"402\"><\/iframe><\/noscript>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>So far this season the Blues have been successful at scrummaging and have won 70 and lost 2, while picking up 17 scrum penalties \u2013 the sixth highest in the league.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Given the Blues&#8217; success in this area, Carr\u00e9&#8217;s youth and tendency to make substitute appearance, it is unlikely he was signed for his scrummaging ability.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>If scrummaging is not a concern, then\nwhat will be expected from the young prop? <\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-datawrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Blues loosehead prop carrying\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/4dfCO\/1\/#?secret=UeunNKn7uc\" data-secret=\"UeunNKn7uc\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"400\"><\/iframe><noscript><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Blues loosehead prop carrying\" src=\"https:\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/4dfCO\/1\/#?secret=UeunNKn7uc\" data-secret=\"UeunNKn7uc\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"400\"><\/iframe><\/noscript>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Playing eight games for Saracens\nand often coming on as a sub, Carr\u00e9 has averaged 3.2m per carry.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The last loosehead to start for the\nBlues, Brad Thyer, has managed to average 1.4m per carry across 11 games from\n2019 to 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The 27-year-old prop made more\nmetres per carry than any other Blues loosehead in 2019\/20 yet does not come\nclose to Carr\u00e9\u2019s numbers in open play.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>However, as an impact sub Carr\u00e9\u2019s\nstatistics may be boosted as a result of playing against tired opposition. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>It also should be taken into\nconsideration how carrying figures can be boosted by one clean break, such as\nthe one Carr\u00e9 made to score his only try for Saracens \u2013 an unusual occurrence for\na prop.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>If Carr\u00e9 makes his expected impact\nin attack, how will his defensive game impact the Blues?<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Blues are ranked seventh in the\nPro 14 for tackles made, a stat that belies their poor league position of sixth\nplace in conference B.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>For Saracens, Carr\u00e9 has been an\neffective presence in defence.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He only missed 4 tackles in his time at the North London club and his tackle completion rate of 91% would be among the finest in the Pro 14.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Not recorded in the stats is how\nhard he tackles, using his heavy frame to make big hits on the opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-datawrapper\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Blues loosehead prop tackle stats\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/htLFe\/1\/#?secret=BDGAnIZZRq\" data-secret=\"BDGAnIZZRq\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"499\"><\/iframe><noscript><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Blues loosehead prop tackle stats\" src=\"https:\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/htLFe\/1\/#?secret=BDGAnIZZRq\" data-secret=\"BDGAnIZZRq\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"499\"><\/iframe><\/noscript>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>The stats show that Carr\u00e9 is set to\nmake an immediate impact at the Blues, but head coach John Mulvihill was quick\nto point out that he is one for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mulvihill said: \u201cHe will bring\nfurther strength in depth to our front-row resources, where we have a great\nblend of youth and experience. So, I am confident Rhys will become a major\nfigure for us over the years ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201c&#8221;We were always hopeful he\nwould return to Cardiff Blues.
