AN update to recycling collections will significantly reduce the time rubbish spends on the street and avoid confusion over changing collection days on Bank Holiday Monday weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the 22nd of February the waste collection schedule will shift from five to four days a week, with collection times between 6am and 3.30pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rubbish will no longer be collected on Mondays, but between Tuesdays and Fridays, which means that weeks falling on a bank holiday Monday will no longer be affected by changing collection days. This will help end confusion for locals, says Cardiff Council. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPeople will be returning home from work to cleaner streets without bags or waste out in the street,\u201d said Cabinet Member for Clean Streets and Recycling, Councillor Michael Michael.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt should make a huge difference across the city and will also reduce the time available for animals or gulls to attack general waste bags or recycling which have incorrectly had food placed in them.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To support these changes the Council is increasing the force to 24 refuse trucks and creating 20 new full-time jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These changes will affect 75% of Cardiff households, who will be allocated a new rubbish collection day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While collection days and times will change, food waste and recyclables will still be collected every week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The weeks general waste, garden and red striped bags will be collected may change, although they will still be picked up fortnightly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
All households will receive a letter outlining if they are affected by the changes and specifically outline the dates and times for collection that apply to them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Some households will keep the same pattern for collection days and weeks.
