The new space will allow the nursery to accommodate a quiet room and an under 2s area<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

PLANS to build a better-suited home for the newest Welsh-medium nursery in Canton have been approved by Cardiff Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new building will be located close to the nursery’s current, temporary accommodation in an easily dismantled structure on the Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch campus, which was formerly used as a classroom and afternoon activity space by students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pwll Coch Welsh-medium nursery (\u201ccylch meithrin\u201d) opened its doors last September and now looks to move into a dedicated space better suited to nursery-aged children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt’s excellent news about the new building,\u201d said Canton Councillor Stephen Cunnah, the Pwll Coch nursery treasurer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDespite the pandemic we have had a really successful start going from an idea on paper in April to now employing three great staff in a busy nursery,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new building will be 150m2<\/sup> and feature space for the nursery as well as additional facilities such as a quiet room and an under 2s area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A dedicated playing field measuring 16 x 12m will be situated to the north of the new building, and will be separated from the rest of the yard by bow-topped railings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the nursery moves, its former home will be dismantled to make space for a play area for Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pwll Coch nursery cost over \u00a3300,000 according to Coun Cunnah. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was funded primarily by a Welsh Government capital grant which aims to support the adoption and growth of the Welsh language. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn-site access to a Cylch will provide an opportunity for local children to access a Welsh-speaking early years facility that will naturally lead to a formal primary education though the medium of Welsh at Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch,\u201d states the planning application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Canton two other Welsh-medium primary schools, Ysgol Treganna and Ysgol Pwll Coch, now also have a Cylch Meithrin. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
