{"id":55133,"date":"2021-11-23T14:34:22","date_gmt":"2021-11-23T14:34:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=55133"},"modified":"2021-11-23T14:34:24","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T14:34:24","slug":"cyncoed-charity-extends-support-to-children-of-cardiff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2021\/11\/23\/cyncoed-charity-extends-support-to-children-of-cardiff\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyncoed charity extends support to children of Cardiff"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teachers who help pupils in Zambia are now working closer to home<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>THE Cyncoed-based charity, MAD4Kids, has begun to help children in Cardiff alongside its usual work for Zambia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sharon Vaughan, 64, has been supporting children in Zambia for 15 years as well as setting up her own charity with her husband, MAD4Kids (Making a Difference for Kids), three years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The charity\u2019s sole focus was on aiding the Good Samaritans Ministry School which is near Luska, the capital city of Zambia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This changed in June when the couple, alongside their two best friends and two children, decided to help Cardiff\u2019s children too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/11\/IMG_9114-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/11\/IMG_9114-rotated.jpg 480w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/11\/IMG_9114-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/11\/IMG_9114-293x391.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/11\/IMG_9114-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/11\/IMG_9114-rotated.jpg 480w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/11\/IMG_9114-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/11\/IMG_9114-293x391.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/noscript><figcaption><strong>Sharon Vaughan with the donated dual buggy.<\/strong> (Photo: Sharon Vaughan)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Mrs Vaughan, who taught at Llanishen High School, said: \u201cWe realised there\u2019s a lot of need within Cardiff so we wanted to see what we could do to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe people that we\u2019ve helped so far have all been in such financial trouble and need and for those people it\u2019s just not viable to go out and buy what they need.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cardiff focused initiative, called MAD4Kids Cardiff +, fulfilled its first request just a few days after its launch and has gone on to help with a further 10 cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The charity has sourced several items in the six months including a dual buggy and a bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUsually within an hour or so after sending out the message of what item is needed, we\u2019ve got it sorted so it\u2019s a real community effort. We\u2019ve gone as far as Penarth as well as Sully to get a bike,\u201d said Mrs Vaughan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recipient of the bike, a young Cardiff boy, said: \u201cI never thought I would ever have a bike of my own. Most of the time, people have got these things, but they don\u2019t know what to do with them. They\u2019re not particularly keen to sell them. It truly goes both ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople can donate and feel good about donating and for the people that receive, it makes a massive difference,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul
