(Photo: Cardiff Council)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Welsh Water said they need to build the plant to accommodate the additional sewage flows generated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/news\/local-news\/what-cardiffs-new-7000-home-11740793\">Plasdwr<\/a> housing development in Radyr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They decided that the best solution was to connect the sewer pipe from Danescourt to the other side of the River Taff within Llandaff North, and the most suitable location was Hailey Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Danielle Thomas, community engagement officer for Welsh Water\u2019s South East division, said: \u201cOne option was to run a sewage pipe through the residential streets of Llandaff North.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;But, through planning and design, we have been able to reach a solution which means we can connect the sewage pipe into a pumping station that will pump that waste into the waste water sites in Cardiff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018The reason we need to cross through Hailey Park is because we have a designated pumping connection point, which is through the streets of Llandaff North, so to run through that point, we need to connect through Hailey Park.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, residents feel Llandaff North should not be affected by the Plasdwr development, and certainly not in their park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This pumping station should be situated within the housing estate that it will serve and not on a diverse wildlife habitat,\u201d said Rhiain Burberry on the Change.org petition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Signing the petition, Pam French said: \u201cThe developer should have bought land to put this on, they will make a lot of money from the development.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPublic park land should not have been sold to accommodate the sewage of people in a development across the river.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We have organised a petition calling for the sewer pumping station planning application decision to go before the planning committee, so a full examination of concerns can be made. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8dhqKMTn6l\">https:\/\/t.co\/8dhqKMTn6l<\/a> or sign a physical copy at Village Garden and Pet Supplies<\/p>&mdash; Llandaff North RA (@LlandaffNorthRA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LlandaffNorthRA\/status\/1466166822311505920?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 1, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents have also publicly objected to the plans via the Cardiff Council <a href=\"https:\/\/planningonline.cardiff.gov.uk\/online-applications\/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=neighbourComments&amp;keyVal=_CARDIFF_DCAPR_137238\">website<\/a>, worried it will change the nature of the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ian Drew said: \u201cGiven Cardiff Council has just declared a nature emergency, it is inconceivable to me that any consideration can be given to building on parkland.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Contrary to what the planning document says, the proposals are not \u2018sympathetic to the landscape character of Hailey Park\u2019. Frankly, that is an insult.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis will be a massive blot on the landscape that will change the character of the park and how people interact with it forever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.friendsofhaileypark.org.uk\/ww-sewage-station.html\">informed<\/a> of the plans on the weekend of November 12. However, residents have not received any formal notice from Cardiff Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, they were informed via social media by Friends of Hailey Park and their local councillors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Welsh Water sewage pumping station planning application &amp; Welsh Water on park to answer questions<br>Community Van will be on Hailey Park (Ty Mawr car park end) on the following dates to discuss the planning application:<br>Tuesday 16 November, 10am \u2013 12pm<br>Monday 22 November, 1pm \u2013 3pm <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PJAs8dKhBr\">pic.twitter.com\/PJAs8dKhBr<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Dilwar Ali (@DilwarAliLAB) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DilwarAliLAB\/status\/1459652817648504836?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 13, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Wilkins said: &#8220;The issue is Cardiff Council \u2014 we haven&#8217;t been consulted by them. Cardiff Council hasn&#8217;t had the courtesy to inform the residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey have taken us for granted and given the seizement to Welsh Water without any consideration for us. It\u2019s affected the trust for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents were also frustrated by the lack of out-of-hours <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HaileyPkCardiff?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1459589343077675016%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es2_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcardiffjournalism.co.uk%2Fthecardiffian%2F2021%2F11%2F16%2Fproposed-sewage-pumping-in-hailey-park-causes-concern%2F\">information sessions<\/a> held by Welsh Water.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far, Welsh Water have held two information sessions, both were during normal working hours. After protest from residents, Welsh Water have agreed to another session on a Saturday in the New Year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, this will not allow residents to voice their opinions in time as the deadline for replies to the planning application is today, December 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Reminder<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DwrCymru?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@DwrCymru<\/a> are at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Llandaff_Hub?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Llandaff_Hub<\/a> this afternoon discussing the sewage pumping station <br><br>\u23f0 4-6pm<\/p>&mdash; Friends Of Hailey Park | Cyfeillion Parc Hailey (@HaileyPkCardiff) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HaileyPkCardiff\/status\/1468189588984414218?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 7, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This is ridiculous,&#8221; Ms Wilkins said. &#8220;We need to stop it and buy more time, and have more transparency around the planning.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With 250 signatures, the petition will now be brought to the Llandaff North councillors, who will submit the issue to Cardiff Council on their behalf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Wilkins said the large number of signatures in just a few days exceeded the Residents\u2019 Association\u2019s expectations, but the activism from residents was not a surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: &#8220;Llandaff North people are very engaged and switched on, so it doesn\u2019t surprise me.
