For residents there are two deeply concerning issues, the one-way system and the sheer number of takeaways popping up along the road &#8211; leading it to be dubbed the next City Road.<br \/>\n<iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/mapsengine.google.com\/map\/embed?mid=zd24NrM9O1wY.kYaJGjdYARuE\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe><noscript><iframe src=\"https:\/\/mapsengine.google.com\/map\/embed?mid=zd24NrM9O1wY.kYaJGjdYARuE\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/noscript><br \/>\n<em>(Takeaways in red, hairdressers\u00a0in blue)<\/em><br \/>\nTo tackle the number of takeaways, Adamsdown councillor Nigel Howells, Liberal Democrat, has asked the planning committee to consider making the street a saturation zone. If accepted, Clifton Street becoming a saturation zone would mean any application put forward for a takeaway licence would be rejected out of hand.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5996\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5996\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JA_clifton_web2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5996\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JA_clifton_web2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"There are a large number of takeaways along Clifton Street\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5996\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5996\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JA_clifton_web2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"There are a large number of takeaways along Clifton Street\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/noscript><\/a> There are a large number of takeaways along Clifton Street<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nBut Sandra Todd, who runs Todd\u2019s Butchers in Clifton street with her husband Phil, said of Coun Howells\u2019s saturation zone pledge: \u201cThey\u2019ve been saying this forever, nothing will change.\u201d<br \/>\nMr Todd added: \u201cHowells has known about this street for years and yet here we are.\u201d<br \/>\nResidents estimate there are about 20 takeaways along the street and Mrs Todd said: \u201cThey\u2019re taking over. What I want to know is where they\u2019re getting their money from to refurnish and open and disappear after six months.\u201d<br \/>\nThe issue of the one-way system is perhaps one that hurts businesses the most however, and its flaw was made clear two weeks ago with a fire at the Splott bingo hall.
