{"id":59611,"date":"2022-01-21T15:48:44","date_gmt":"2022-01-21T15:48:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=59611"},"modified":"2022-01-21T16:19:07","modified_gmt":"2022-01-21T16:19:07","slug":"clive-street-residents-want-greener-solution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2022\/01\/21\/clive-street-residents-want-greener-solution\/","title":{"rendered":"Residents urge action to stop parking on central reservation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cardiff Council may introduce double yellow lines to prevent vehicles obstructing pedestrians on Clive Street <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>CLIVE Street residents, who have endured years of vehicles parked on the central reservation, have mixed reactions to a traffic plan unveiled by Cardiff council.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Councillors will discuss introducing double yellow lines to deter people from parking on the traffic islands, and fine them if necessary.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anthony Jason Amor, 37, grew up on Clive Street agrees with the double yellow lines plan but says more must be done.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the last couple of years, it\u2019s got worse. Lots of the properties have been turned into flats, so there are more cars as well as the commercial garages,\u201d&nbsp;he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Amor added that Clive Street had suffered problems for years because the road has unrestricted free parking. He would like the road to become residents only road with more disabled bays.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The council\u2019s proposal says people would be able to park on the traffic island only to:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Board and alight from a vehicle&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\"><li>Load and unload goods&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\"><li>Essential services and funerals&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\"><li>Three hours for vehicles displaying a disabled badge.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Amor said: \u201cI am a hindquarter amputee, 95% of the time I am in a wheelchair. The council needs to look at the demands of local businesses.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He does not oppose the double yellow lines but believes that more should be done.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the longer term I think we should be getting a consultation on changing the central reservation to something greener and softer. I think there&#8217;s a fair amount of support for that.
