{"id":60990,"date":"2022-02-01T16:52:59","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T16:52:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=60990"},"modified":"2022-02-01T16:53:01","modified_gmt":"2022-02-01T16:53:01","slug":"conservative-candidates-aiming-to-keep-llanishen-blue-after-boundary-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2022\/02\/01\/conservative-candidates-aiming-to-keep-llanishen-blue-after-boundary-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"Conservative candidates aiming to keep Llanishen blue after boundary changes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a-political-veteran-and-a-first-timer-are-standing-in-llanishen-while-a-trio-of-tory-candidates-will-contest-the-new-lisvane-and-thornhill-ward\"><strong>A political veteran and a first-timer are standing in Llanishen while a trio of Tory candidates will contest the new Lisvane and Thornhill ward<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>THE Conservatives have announced their candidates for the redrawn wards of Llanishen and the new ward of Lisvane and Thornhill ahead of the council elections in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lawrence Gwynn and Jens Kaiser have been chosen to stand in Llanishen where the number of councillors is dropping from four to two as Thornhill is transferred to neighbouring Lisvane ward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John Lancaster and Sian Elin-Melbourne are standing in Lisvane and Thornhill, which is increasing from one to three councillors. Photo: Boundary Commission for Wales<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Lifelong Llanishen resident Mr Gwynn said: \u201cHelping the people of Llanishen is the whole point and it\u2019s often the little things that people want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are several issues that need addressing in Llanishen. For example, enforcing speed limits. Some 20mph zones are totally ignored and I worry for the young kids playing \u00ad\u2013 I used to play there myself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Gwynn attended Coed Glas Primary School before going onto Llanishen High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked why he\u2019s standing, Mr Kaiser said: \u201cI want to repay the welcome the people of Llanishen have given me. Photo: Boundary commission for Wales.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The quality of the roads is another focus for Mr Gwynn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome of the roads like Fishguard Road are terrible, the potholes can damage your car because they are so bad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Gwynn, who joined the Conservative Party six months ago, outlined what he&#8217;s standing for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cI think we need more police presence on the beat. You just don\u2019t see police officers on the street anymore. Also, the Llangrannog Road shops need regeneration or to be turned into flats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd why is there no service on a Sunday on the Coryton Railway? People going shopping on a Sunday could get to town in five minutes. Imagine the amount of traffic this would bring off the roads.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Tory candidate thinks the loss of Thornhill might damage the Conservative vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Gwynn said: &#8220;Thornhill was a good area for the Conservatives and I&#8217;m a bit concerned with the loss.
