With its latest offering Leviathan, it has taken inspiration from the Scottish\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/oran-mor.co.uk\/\">Oran Mor<\/a>&#8216;s\u00a0theatre who they \u00a0worked with\u00a0to coproduce\u00a0the idea of roughing up the dusty concept of &#8216;dinner and a play&#8217;, and giving it a hearty twist. For your \u00a312.50 theatre goers get a winning lineup of a\u00a0play, pie and a pint. (Coffee or wine are options too, but don&#8217;t sound quite so good in the title.)<\/div>\n<div>Through the year the theatre are to offer a series of new pieces of theatre with the deal, opening with the premier of Welsh writer Matthew Trevannion&#8217;s <i>Leviathan<\/i>.<\/div>\n<div>Directed by Rachel O&#8217;Riordan, the play stars BBC Wales&#8217;s Gwawr Loader, Holby City&#8217;s Claire\u00a0Cage\u00a0and Cymru Bafta winning acress Siw Hughes.<\/div>\n<div>The play centre&#8217;s on the relationships of three generations of women: grandmother, mother and daughter. The thought-provoking play seems to function on contrasts and divisions,\u00a0presenting you at once with the stark realism of a valley council estate, and tumbling poetic dialogue akin to the brilliance of <em>Under\u00a0Milk Wood<\/em>.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6862\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6862\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/leviathanfeatured3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6862\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/leviathanfeatured3-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"Gwawr Loader \" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6862\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6862\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/leviathanfeatured3-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"Gwawr Loader \" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" \/><\/noscript><\/a> Gwawr Loader<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>Though hilariously frank and open with dialogue that is apt and\u00a0well observed,\u00a0 the women are divided by secrets, bitterness and, at the plays heart, the fact that Hannah, the mother, has fallen deep into the grips of a disturbed, catatonic state.<\/div>\n<div>Silent Hannah sits despondent throughout, speaking only to the audience in moments of lucid, lyrical speech that drive the drama deeper towards her dark past.<br \/>\nSet\u00a0on their\u00a0sun drenched council house lawn,\u00a0Trevannion subtly invades their quiet with\u00a0overlooking neighbours and a thundering train line,\u00a0imbedding a sense of scrutiny and unease. Gradually and skilfully building and revealing by inches\u00a0a wealth of pain and black memories.<\/div>\n<div>The plays name, perhaps a little out of kilter with the thoroughly ordinary setting, reimagines the mythical beast. To Trevannion the idea of a leviathan grabbed him as a metaphor for depression, a dark lurking presence that lies beneath where &#8220;can&#8217;t understand it&#8217;s size, or quite how dangerous it is.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6861\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6861\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/leviathanfeatured2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6861\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/leviathanfeatured2-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"Gwawr Loader and  Siw Hughes\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6861\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6861\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/leviathanfeatured2-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"Gwawr Loader and  Siw Hughes\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" \/><\/noscript><\/a> Gwawr Loader and Siw Hughes<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nThrough the play strains of metaphors of motherhood, life and death, run seamlessly alongside the very human drama of separations and fears. with a play that is complex yet wholly accessible,\u00a0Trevannion seems to have succeeded\u00a0in the task he set himself: creating something to make people\u00a0&#8220;leave moved and changed by something &#8211; ever so slightly- within a working day.&#8221;\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A play a pie and a pint.
