It was created by graffiti artist Bryce Davies as part of a commission for Cardiff council celebrating Cardiff-based international sports stars.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outside of Cardiff, there have also been calls to rename several landmark sites across Wales after the former Wales captain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This includes a proposal to change the name of the Prince of Wales Bridge following a campaign by Wales fan Andrew Challis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI believe, like most of Wales, that Gareth Bale deserves to be honoured and I thought it fitting to re-name this particular structure in his honour,\u201d said Mr Challis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBale for me epitomises what it is to be Welsh, to have that pride in your country and express it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bridge\u2019s original name, The Second Severn Crossing, was changed back in 2018 to the Prince of Wales Bridge to mark 60 years since Prince Charles, now King Charles III, first took the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However the renaming of the bridge was controversial, with an online petition against the name change receiving over 30,000 signatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never agreed with the name, and I feel it should now be changed to honour this deserved Welshman,\u201d said Mr Challis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Challis&#8217; original petition to both the UK and Welsh governments was rejected, however this set-back hasn\u2019t stopped the dedicated fan, who has instead created an independent petition on Change.org to garner public support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMomentum is building, and support is growing daily,\u201d said Mr Challis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLoads of people are already unofficially calling it the Pont Bale or Bale Bridge!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A link to Mr Challis&#8217; petition, which has 154 signatures at the time of writing, can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/change-the-name-of-the-prince-of-wales-bridge-in-honour-of-gareth-bale?recruiter=326046290&amp;recruited_by_id=542cb230-1933-11e5-b100-f38e62f2709e&amp;utm_source=share_petition&amp;utm_campaign=share_petition&amp;utm_term=share_for_starters_page&amp;utm_medium=copylink&amp;utm_content=cl_sharecopy_35470223_en-GB%3A9\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are calls to commemorate the star player following his retirement<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":906,"featured_media":71222,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[1291,95,436,74,339,5596],"coauthors":[8091],"class_list":["post-71187","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sport","tag-cardiff-2","tag-football","tag-gareth-bale","tag-sport-2","tag-wales","tag-wales-national-team"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Statues, murals or a bridge... how should Wales honour Gareth Bale?
