But while the Bluebirds get ready to welcome another new face to the hotseat, the problems he will face are all too familiar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CARDIFF City\u2019s third manager of the season will be inheriting a situation all too familiar to his predecessors \u2013 crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team are struggling for goals, lacking confidence and under serious threat of relegation, while there is growing anger from the fans over a situation the club finds itself in yet again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Cardiffian <\/em>takes a look at three things which need to change for the next goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are the worst in the Championship at this, finding the net just 21 times this season and continuing a worrying trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-wp-embed is-provider-flourish wp-block-embed-flourish\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load wp-embedded-content\" width=\"700\"><\/iframe><\/noscript>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although alarm bells aren\u2019t ringing defensively, with the team conceding no more than the league average, a lack of cutting edge has left the Bluebirds struggling to get through tight games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saturday\u2019s 96<sup>th<\/sup> minute hammer blow was testament to this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With 60% possession and only two shots on target, they looked far from prolific against a poor Wigan side who are bottom of the league and leaking goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally finding what they thought was the winner in the 82<sup>nd<\/sup> minute, City sat back when they should have gone for the jugular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This allowed Wigan to launch their first serious attacks of the game, resulting in a sickening late equaliser and spelling the end for inexperienced manager Mark Hudson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dropping points has been an all too familiar feeling for City fans this season, suffering three losses after scoring first, the joint-most in the league.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-wp-embed is-provider-flourish wp-block-embed-flourish\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Interactive or visual content\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/12468018\/embed#?secret=v75AOjM6Qg\" data-secret=\"v75AOjM6Qg\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" height=\"575\" width=\"700\"><\/iframe><\/noscript>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And 15 of them have been lost from winning positions overall, which would have put the team firmly in the play-offs had they held on in these matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To state the obvious, goals will win these sorts of games for the next manager, especially if he can build on the team\u2019s fairly strong defence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2023\/01\/17\/manager-cardiff-city-need\/\">Whoever comes in<\/a> will be given the task of getting the best out of main threat Callum Robinson and young but currently un-prolific talents like Kion Etete and Isaak Davies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Failing this, the club which has never adequately replaced their most recent out-and-out goalscorer Kieffer Moore may have to look to the transfer market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This brings us on to the next issue which needs fixing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>A lack of football people at the top<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For a long time there has been a gap in footballing knowledge at the top of the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the age of the sporting director\/ director of football\/ technical director or however you may want to phrase it, the club has stood still.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img WalesOnline<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>With Vincent Tan\u2019s ownership entering its 13th year, the structure at the summit very much resembles that of his first. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tan at the top, with a chairman, Mehmet Dalman, and a CEO, Ken Choo, operating below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither of the men below Tan and responsible for running the club on the day-to-day are what you might call football people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dalman\u2019s background is in investment banking with Choo\u2019s in the world of luxury car dealing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This gap in genuine knowledge of the game at the top of the club is glaring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the nine permanent managers Tan has appointed, only two have delivered real success on the pitch &#8211; Malky Mackay and Neil Warnock \u2013 with City owner has failed to get with the times, arguably-smaller clubs have made strides with their informed and inovative approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The likes of Brighton and Brentford have had huge success during Tan\u2019s tenure as they have reached and established themselves as Premier League forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They have also been credited for their transfer dealings, often buying hidden gems and moving them on for much higher fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marc Cucurella, who the Seagulls signed for around \u00a318 million, was sold for \u00a365 million a year later. While the Bees\u2019 recruitment policy has seen them move the likes of Sa\u00efd Benrahma and Ollie Watkins on for similarly healthy profits. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their managerial appointments have been spot on too. Thus undoing the cycle where the Bluebirds lurch from one short term fix to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move from the direct football of Neil Warnock\u2019s experienced lieutenants to the attempt at a passing style by Neil Harris, before reverting back to type under Mick McCarthy epitomised this cycle. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">With respect to NW\u2019s promotion and bringing the club back together, he left a scorched earth squad &amp; youngsters like Colwill &amp; Davies only emerged after he went.
