WHEN police received reports of a car being driven in an “erratic manner”, they pulled it over in a KFC car park and discovered the driver smelled of alcohol and cannabis, a court heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Driver Dafydd Greenslade, 29, also appeared pale and drowsy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When police breathalysed him at the KFC on Newport Road before being taking him to the station, he recorded a reading of 52 micrograms of alcohol in 100 ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Greenslade, of Cherrydale Road in Ely, Cardiff, admitted drink-driving, driving without a full licence and driving without insurance after the incident on Friday, January 6, at around 7pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No cannabis was found in his system, but he was also cautioned for possession of the drug, Cardiff Magistrates Court was told. The defendant was in possession of a provisional driving licence but did not have learner plates on the car and was not with a supervisor meaning the terms of his insurance were void, the court heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prosecution, Emma Davies, told the court that Greenslade received four points on his licence last year when he was caught driving without learner plates but had never been in court before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Greenslade’s defence lawyer told the court that the defendant had ADHD after suffering from meningitis as a baby and had to take regular medication. But on January 6 he had not taken this medication, meaning he was “absent minded”, his lawyer added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court was told that the defendant\u2019s ADHD meant he could not look after his own money and that his mother was appointed to look after it for him, showing the impact his ADHD has on his day-to-day life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Greenslade pleaded guilty to the charges and was disqualified from driving for 16 months. He was also told to pay a total of \u00a3254, with \u00a3121 of that a fine, \u00a385 prosecution costs and a \u00a348 government surcharge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the defendant agreed to take part in a driving course which will see his driving ban end on February 1, 2024, if the course is completed by December 1 of this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
