Together they make up Wales&#8217; strongest couple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between them they have a combined deadlift of 530 kilograms (83 stone) &#8211; the weight of around six men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These two Welsh women also hold a Guinness World Record for, together, pulling a 48-tone plane 20 metres in 37 seconds. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Aberlass Sam Taylor and her wife, Sue Taylor-Franklin have found themselves in the Guinness world records, by pulling a plane weighing 48 tonne. Image: Bethan Wild<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sam, who was in the abusive relationship for four years, said: \u201cIt is always assumed that it was a man \u2013 but, no, it was with a woman. There were a couple of incidents where it was physically abusive, but it was mainly mental.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving worked with women who had been in abusive relationships \u2013 I knew how to get out of it \u2013 but it is really not easy when you are in it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue, who had also previously been in an abusive relationship, said: \u201cMy first proper gay relationship was very physical, and I think that\u2019s why Sam and I respect each other so much.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut I was the same. We were together for four years and I was beaten black and blue &#8211; in the end I didn\u2019t know who I was as a person.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sat side-by-side, Sam and Sue discussed how the gym helped them regain their confidence and mental strength. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sam explained: \u201cWhen I look back now, I think I was subconsciously trying to build an armour. Sam, who had been training for more than two years already, had just gained her personal trainer qualification.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue said: \u201cI had lost quite a lot of weight, about five stones, and I had eventually plateaued in the weight loss.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo, Sam really encouraged the weight-lifting and we started training together. And, I mean, I was nearing 50 and thought \u2018I cant be lifting weights like that\u2019. But turns out I could.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two ladies are the only married couple to go head-to-head on the world weightlifting stage. In the Brits Womens Masters 2020 the couple put up a close fight with Sam claiming first place and Sue second.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, due to a motorcycle accident suffered at the age of 17, Sue has had ongoing issues with her knee. Over time the osteoarthritis has worsened.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue was told that the NHS waiting list for a knee replacement was around four to five years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt has really impacted my mental health not being able to train at all,\u201d said Sue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get Sue competing again before she is 60 years old, Sam set up a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/sue-taylorfranklin-knee-replacement-surgery?member=25625797&amp;sharetype=teams&amp;utm_campaign=p_na+share-sheet&amp;utm_medium=copy_link&amp;utm_source=customer\">GoFundMe<\/a> in the hopes that they will be able to go private.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load\" title=\"Meet Wales&#039; Strongest Couple\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4OWtrJGPfhE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><noscript><iframe title=\"Meet Wales&#039; Strongest Couple\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4OWtrJGPfhE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A determined Sue said: \u201cI will compete again. I won\u2019t stop here. It is my goal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue being unable to train has also had a significant impact on Sam\u2019s training.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have trained together since 2018, we were each other\u2019s motivation. If Sue lifted heavy, I would be motivated to lift heavier, so yeah, I have been struggling to find that motivation,\u201d said Sam.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, Sue is taking on a more coaching role in Sam\u2019s training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sam is currently two weeks into her eight weeks of intense training for Wales\u2019 Strongest Woman in May.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither women partake in strict calorie counting but they keep a rough estimate when training.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the run up to the competition Sam will intake around 4,500 calories a day, focusing on a high protein intake and a substantial amount of carbs to fuel her body ready for the weight-lifting.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sam is currently training four and five times a week with each session being two to three hours
