If the customers know that we\u2019re here and we\u2019re open, then maybe later or maybe the next day they will come in,\u201d said Mr Sethi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, Daniel Wall, bar manager at The Glendale said: \u201cWe\u2019ve started doing lunches, with the hope of opening ourselves up to a new area of customers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shop owners tended more towards an attitude of adaptability. \u201cSmall businesses are nimble on their feet,\u201d said Petra Aydin-Barberini, owner of Rowley\u2019s Jewellers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cObviously January is harder, no-one has any money.<\/p>\n<cite>Charlotte Holland, Owner of Willmore&#8217;s cafe<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Rotating stock, reacting to seasonal holidays, and cutting prices in regular sales were all discussed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn January people love to try and go on a diet, or go vegan or something, so we sell vegan and sugar-free sweets,\u201d said Ms Dunlop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some owners have been able to avoid a slump altogether. Peter Deroches said the Crepe Escape did quite well in January, and credits their regulars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter what time of year it is, if they like us, they\u2019re still going to come in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is a map showing the eight businesses The Cardiffian spoke to.
