BRANDON Mitchell used to be a soldier in the British army, but now he saves lives as a medic in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On March 16, 2022, three weeks after Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he hopped on a train to Lviv despite not knowing the language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said: \u201cI felt obliged to go and help in whatever capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere are days we were driving around the city and picking up wounded and killed civilians just on the streets.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n Originally from Canada, he moved to the UK to serve in the British army and continued living here for 15 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Working in the events industry, he travelled all across the country, before finding himself bankrupt due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said: \u201cFor better or worse I was in a transition period in my life but I was really motivated.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now 37, he\u2019s been a medic for two years, only leaving once to see his family, and twice to tour the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Along with fellow medics Kateryna Pryimak and Iryna Knyzhnyk, he is fundraising and spreading awareness of Russia\u2019s targeting of medics and civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Iryna Knyzhnyk said: \u201cThere are days we were driving around the city and picking up wounded and killed civilians just on the streets.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Travelling with them is an ambulance riddled with bullets taken from Kharkiv in late October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
