They are also 10 times less likely to receive offers.<br \/>\nFinn Provan studied at Whitchurch High School before moving to Radyr Comprehensive to study her A-levels. The 18-year-old is hoping to study German and Beginners Russian at Oxford.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8378\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8378\" style=\"width: 227px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Finn-edited.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-8378\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Finn-edited-208x300.jpg\" alt=\"Finn edited\" width=\"227\" height=\"327\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8378\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8378\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Finn-edited-208x300.jpg\" alt=\"Finn edited\" width=\"227\" height=\"327\" \/><\/noscript><\/a> <strong>Finn Provan wants to study at Oxford<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nShe said: \u201cChoosing to apply to Oxbridge came quite naturally to me. I wanted to study in an environment which would be completely academically nourishing and where I could spend the next chapter of my life indulging in what I wanted.<br \/>\n\u201cI think the admissions process for Oxbridge can be a little daunting for many. It can also be very easy to question your own abilities and experiences as you are aware of the strict, and sometimes quite mysterious criteria these universities seem to rate you on.\u201d<br \/>\nMr Murphy proposed that the reasons for the low number of Welsh applicants lie with grade attainment levels. He also hinted that teachers\u2019 attitudes to and awareness of Oxbridge also contribute to the declining number of applicants.<br \/>\nHe claimed that teachers are key to increasing students\u2019 chances of both applying to and gaining places at Oxbridge, and proposed that teachers should encourage more students to apply.<br \/>\nThe report also suggested the Welsh Government could support applicants more by giving out more information ad encouraging schools to work together to\u00a0offer pupils more academic experiences.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8380\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8380\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0279-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-8380 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0279-2-230x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0279 (2)\" width=\"230\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8380\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8380 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0279-2-230x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0279 (2)\" width=\"230\" height=\"300\" \/><\/noscript><\/a> <strong>Rebecca Wigley-Jones wants to study at Cambridge<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nRebecca Wigley-Jones, 17, has been offered a place to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge University.<br \/>\nShe said: \u201cLast year I made the decision to apply to Cambridge after attending a chemistry master class\u00a0at the university last year.<br \/>\n\u201cI found the process of applying both challenging and exciting. When writing my personal statement I had to ensure that I had read around my subject enough to be a credible candidate.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen I received my letter telling me I got in I was over the moon. It took a while to sink in that I had actually been offered a place. I just need to make sure that I achieve the grades I need to get in now. She said: \u201cI initially realised that applying to Cambridge may be within my reach after receiving my GCSE results and being told by my school that this was a possibility.<br \/>\n\u201cI understood that it is one of the very best universities in the world to study architecture, and that, if I gain a place, this could hopefully lead to many opportunities.<br \/>\n\u201cAfter attending a week long course specific summer school, I decided that I really liked the teaching style, course content and collegiate system.\u00a0I found the process of applying simple, straightforward and no different to that of other universities except that I had to apply slightly earlier and fill out an Supplementary Application Questionnaire.\u201d<br \/>\nSince Mr Murphy\u2019s report was published, the Welsh Government has designed a series of hubs around Wales called the\u00a0Seren Network to help sixth form students get into the UK\u2019s leading universities.<br \/>\nThe hubs host workshops on different subjects, provide hands-on support to UCAS applicants and help schools and teachers with the application process.<br \/>\nThe Cardiff hub should be launched in the next few months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THREE students from Radyr Comprehensive School have been offered places to study at Oxbridge next year.
