{"id":85782,"date":"2024-03-22T15:35:01","date_gmt":"2024-03-22T15:35:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=85782"},"modified":"2024-03-22T15:35:04","modified_gmt":"2024-03-22T15:35:04","slug":"residents-relief-as-crwys-road-rubbish-pile-is-finally-cleared","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2024\/03\/22\/residents-relief-as-crwys-road-rubbish-pile-is-finally-cleared\/","title":{"rendered":"Residents\u2019 relief as Crwys Road rubbish pile is  finally cleared"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After sending several warnings to the landowner, Cardiff council was finally allowed to clean it up<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>THE &#8220;disgusting&#8221; pile of rubbish blighting one of Cardiff\u2019s busiest roads for years has, at last, been removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The council\u2019s waste management team moved in last week after <em>the Cardiffian<\/em> reported on the pile, clearing up the site which had been <a href=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2024\/03\/06\/filthy-mountain-of-rubbish-on-one-of-cardiffs-busiest-streets-branded-an-eyesore\/\">branded as an \u2018eyesore\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A gate now blocks the tiny patch of land, hoping to stop people from once again filling it with their old trash, guitars and toilets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-flourish wp-block-embed-flourish\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Interactive or visual content\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/17265037\/embed#?secret=SL7u22eRX5\" data-secret=\"SL7u22eRX5\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" height=\"575\" width=\"700\"><\/iframe><noscript><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Interactive or visual content\" src=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/17265037\/embed#?secret=SL7u22eRX5\" data-secret=\"SL7u22eRX5\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" height=\"575\" width=\"700\"><\/iframe><\/noscript>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The site sits between businesses and private houses, with locals who had to pass the fly-tip everyday calling it &#8220;disgusting&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, being on busy Crwys Road and close to the junction with Albany Road and City Road the tip was known Cardiff-wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fly-tipping hotspot was on private land, which made it difficult for the council to act, but they were finally able to clean it themselves after sending multiple warnings to the landowner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elizabeth Lodge, who picks litter every Saturday with Keep Roath Tidy, a community litter-pick group, said: \u201cI\u2019m just really chuffed it\u2019s finally sorted. I\u2019m pleased they have taken action and also the fact they have put that barrier to stop it happening again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe get so many reports of fly-tipping for different areas \u2013 one person starts then everyone starts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey usually do it under trees, I\u2019ve seen quite a few with piles of rubbish underneath.
