{"id":86869,"date":"2024-11-05T16:51:39","date_gmt":"2024-11-05T16:51:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=86869"},"modified":"2024-11-05T16:51:41","modified_gmt":"2024-11-05T16:51:41","slug":"llandaff-cathedral-aiming-to-dance-out-of-debt-thanks-to-music-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2024\/11\/05\/llandaff-cathedral-aiming-to-dance-out-of-debt-thanks-to-music-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Llandaff Cathedral aiming to dance out of debt thanks to music events"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hosting concerts and silent discos are among the ways the cathedral hopes to reach financial stability <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>LLANDAFF Cathedral could break even financially for the first time in years after introducing music events like silent discos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cathedral was initially projected to have a deficit of \u00a340,000 this year but, thanks to a new approach to hosting cultural events, is expected to break even by the end of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Cathedral was a very different place before Covid,&#8221; said Christopher Preece, Head of Stakeholder Engagements at the cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With debts mounting, the cathedral needed to find new ways of generating money and began hosting some types of events that had previously not taken place there &#8211; whilst trying to boost funds with alcohol-led events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Llandaff Cathedral has not faced any criticism so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;People who are socially connected with the cathedral are really pleased that so many people want to come, the way they do the lighting, it looks pretty good,&#8221; said Mr Preece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wendy Foxhill, from Whitchurch, has attended a silent disco and a carol service last December and has booked to go to another silent disco.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a great idea as more of the community are able to get an experience of the cathedral environment,&#8221; she said, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next upcoming silent disco event is &#8217;80s, &#8217;90s and &#8217;00s themed, and will be held on the November 22 and 23.
