A MAN assaulted his girlfriend, his girlfriend\u2019s mother, and then threatened to burn down his girlfriend\u2019s car, Cardiff Magistrates Court heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scott Calnan, 29, of Verbena Close, St Mellons, Cardiff, attacked his girlfriend of six years and her mother at his girlfriend\u2019s property on August 10, 2024, Sarah Cole, prosecuting, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Calnan \u201cpushed\u201d his girlfriend and then \u201ccame right in front of the girlfriend\u2019s mother\u2019s forehead,\u201d hitting her leg with a green bin bag, Ms Cole told the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The girlfriend did not want the prosecution to go ahead but as it was a domestic offence, it must stand, said the prosecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Calnan pleaded guilty to two charges of assault by beating and one charge of threatening to destroy property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In video evidence played to the court, recorded by a neighbour who witnessed the altercation, Calnan is heard threatening his girlfriend: \u201cYou won\u2019t be smiling or waving when your car goes on fire, because it will go on fire.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gavyn Cook, defending, told the court that Calnan\u2019s only previous conviction was in 2016 for a public order offence and asked District Judge Stephen Harmes to bear that in mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Judge Harmes adjourned Calnan’s case and told the court a pre-sentence report would be needed. He warned Calnan that a custodial sentence is still an option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Calnan will be sentenced on January 6, 2025, at Cardiff Magistrates Court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
